Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
How does the public change the timers on traffic lights? Is there some asshole we need to snub out because the light at Fair Lakes Parkway and the Fairfax County Parkway is un-fucking-believable. I know the below-mentioned times are accurate because I sat through 4 fucking cycles of red/green lights before I got to go through the intersection.
The light is green for 20 seconds for Fair Lakes, with substantial backups on both sides. Only about 10 cars per lane can make it across before it turns red.
Yet the light for the parkway is 2:20, and is only mildly backed up during the 20 seconds they get a red light.

Here's the solution:
Copy this verbatim and send it to VDOT to complain and then report back and let us know how it goes.
THey have pressure plates but I think they are over ridden during rush hours. Switching your high beams doesn't really help. You're thinking of the system that emergency vehicles use when they trip the lights with their sirens, or in some cases, a flashing light on the roof. I guess if your headlights are pointing up, for some reason, and are that bright, and flashign at the right frequency and wavelength....
And invariably after sitting through three lights, there is always at least one driver that will still allow five car lengths between them and the car in front of them. Making us all wait through yet one more light. grrrrr

It's good to have a "work-around". ;O)

You are right, they actually use infrared - with the right sequence
of frequency and wavelength. Ebay use to have 'em available but now
counties that use those actually set them separate from one another.
