- A 22-year-old Oxon Hill man -- a convicted felon -- allegedly carjacked a 46-year-old Alexandria woman in the parking garage at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station Tuesday evening.
Police say Diallo Outing used a handgun to force the woman into the trunk of her 2010 red Chevrolet Camaro.
The suspect drove to the Lorton area and released the woman. Police say the woman, who was not injured, called 911 around 7 p.m. from a home in the 8500 block of Silverdale Road.
Fairfax County Police broadcast a lookout for the man driving the stolen car. The search involved K-9 teams, a bloodhound, a Fairfax County Police helicopter and a U.S. Park Police helicopter.
Fairfax Police Spokesman Don Gotthardt told WTOP Tuesday night police spotted and pursued the woman's car. It crashed near the intersection of Hooes Road and Furnace Road, with the suspect taking off on foot. A K-9 officer apprehended Outing one block from the crash site shortly before midnight.
Police charged Outing with armed carjacking, abduction by force, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Is this an example of how criminals definitely DO NOT take Metro to places to commit crimes? I guess he drove from Oxon Hill to the Springfield Metro station and carjacked the lady there. Or not.
Beware Tysons! You have some fancy cars there! And this guy made two train changes from the Green Line in PG County to do it, so they will put in some effort.
edit to add: this guy was a convicted felon... if only we had stricter gun laws that say felons cannot have handguns!

How were the police able to chase this car? On the news it appeared to be one of those fancy new Camaro SS models. But then again, I'm guessing the person who wrecked it, isn't too familiar with some of the tricky roads around here. :(

He tried to make a right turn from Furnace onto Hoose road, but didn't account for how sharp that turn is.

The 1970's "police interceptor package" is what you are referring to.
They used put them in Crown Vics and Caprice Classics.
Nowadays, there are lots of cars that can outrun the cops. Porsches, Ferraris, Mustang GTs, Camaro SSs, any number of customized little rice burners (no, here I'm just humoring all the fools who spend $10k "souping up" their $2,500 cars).
The police don't need to be able to outrun cars, they have radios.

I should say I knew Kelli and have read all blogs about her, news stories and more to say that her friends should have seen this coming is insulting or to add it to the husband's blame is crazy. Not every person is an obvious drunk so this has me thinking that there is more to the story than just the obvious - does it change anything - NO! What I take away from this is to make good judgements everyday - that in itself is not an easy task. This isn't just about drunk driving or traffic citations it is about the ability to know the difference between right and wrong something everyone should know but with every new story you realize hasn't been taught - so thank your lucky stars that so far you have made good judgements and make a conscience effort to continue doing so - then you can avoid the consequences given from poor decisions. ****I wish she would've called me - I would've been there but she was alone and she didn't have to be none of this had to be****

Well, the Metro was making Oxon Hill a little safer.
I'm surprised the cops had time in their busy schedule of harrassing and jailing non-violent drug offenders to actually deal with a real crime! Go police! I'm impressed.
pgens - I hope you were being sarcastic. The gun laws don't keep guns out of the hands of felons, just out of the hands of that poor woman who could have defended herself more easily except that its such a pain for law abiding citizens to jump through the hoops.
The perps gun was bought off the streets, not a problem.
Side note - If I was stuffed into my trunk by a thug with a gun, I'd be getting right with God. geez looouise she's lucky to be alive.

How is it hard? Just OPEN CARRY, no permit, no nothing required. If you're not a person prohibited from firearms ownership you can open carry on the Metro.

... until you cross into DC or MD. I'm sure that's obvious but I wanted to add that to make sure in case someone reads that and thinks it means all of the Metro system.
