How much do high school football coaches get paid?

Of course it varies, but what does an average varsity head coach make in Northern Virginia? How about assistant coaches?

It would depend on what your actual teaching position within the school system is and your seniority. But I would expect roughly 60K on the low end and 95K on the top end for head coaches. This would include a coaching supplement.

Here are all the salary supplements. Music teachers, coaches, etc. Plus any other FCPS salary they earn. Depends on what their day job is.

My son is with a high school football program this year. I am constantly picking him up or dropping him off and attend the scrimmages and games in support. I have to say after many redskins games in the past few years, they are more interesting in some ways and very entertaining most nights. I have first hand seen the dedication to the players, and the hours invested by the coaching staff. If $7100 is the stipend, then they are getting minimum wage for the hours they put in I'm sure. And it's not all on the field. They take an active interest in the scholastic aspects as well. It is contributing to keeping my son, and I'm sure many others, focused on doing well in school and staying too busy for other less productive distractions. Money well spent fir the benefits I see. First hand observations, and an opinion based on what I've seen so far.

Curious, in Virginia, can HS boosters give a stipend to coaches in addition to their teacher pay and coaching stipend? I know in Georgia, where teacher salaries are less than Fairfax County, there are many top caliber football coaches making 100k+ because they received a stipend from the boosters.

I've been an assistant coach for 8-9 years. Stipends have ranged from $500 to about $2000. One season it worked out to be about $.37 per hour.

No one in Virginia is coaching high school football for the money.

You would need to evaluate the 501c3 laws.

FCPS also limits what employees can receive as "presents" while doing their jobs.

High school football coaches are county employees and you can't go giving county employees extra money for doing their job. That is just the way it is.
