McElveen, Moon, Hynes, Garza, Lockard and the rest of them will cry and cry when this tax does not pass.

And yes, we know Ryan, using his "derpers" alias will come and defend it, but that's gotten real old, maybe he ought to go to clown school and live up to his new name of Clownboy.

Until FCPS cleans up its act and reduces the wasted spending I can't imagine anyone voting to increase taxes to support them.

We pay Eric Jensen $9,000 a day to talk about music (among other things). Small problem, Bobby McFerrin debunks Jensen here:

Paying "Dr." Eric Jensen, the online degreed wonder, is just one of many examples of FCPS waste!

"Dr." Tara Brach (holder of an online Ph.D.) is NO LONGER A LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST in Maryland. She was NEVER licensed in Virginia.

Why is FCPS hiring her to teach mindfulness, a form of psychotherapy, typically offered by LICENSED PSYCHOTHERAPISTS?

Small problem: YOU ARE A TOTAL ASSHOLE.

It doesn't fucking matter what asswipe Bobby McFerrin thinks. It doesn't matter what a complete brain-fucked dipshit like you thinks either. Jensen is a nationally known speaker and workshop leader. He has spoken at God knows how many schools all around the country. It is the job of FCPS to select and invite school speakers each year, and they have hardly stepped out of any bounds at all in having Eric Jensen speak. YOU on the other hand ae a complete jerk who really ought to just SHUT THE FUCK UP!

McFerrin debunked Jensen in the context of a TED Talk. That's an accomplishment Jensen cannot match, he'd get laughed off the stage. Jensen speaks at school districts because they don't know any better. If he were as good as he thinks he is, his work would be an internationally recognized standard. It is not.

Oh yes, and how many records has Jensen sold, playing this emotional keyboard of his? I think McFerrin's background and accomplishments speak for themselves, what, exactly, has Jensen actually DONE again?

Flip Flippen seems to inflate his credentials. Why was Nardos King allowed to hire him?

He claims to be a psychotherapist. What he is is a counselor. Moreover, his license is inactive. That means he can't practice, it also means that he cannot hold privileges at psychiatric hospitals. Of course, even with an active license, he would have to do that under the supervision of a physician. As Flippen only holds an M.A. degree, he needs that level of supervision.

Here it is, straight from the great state of Texas:

"Accountability in government" and "prudent spending;" contemplate these ideas, they are the flaws in your argument.

What, by the way, is the basis for referring to Bobby McFerrin as a "useless twerp?" He's a gifted entertainer (he's worked with Chick Corea among others), he's a noted music educator and, as mentioned before, his TED Talk speaks for itself.

If the schools persist in hiring the likes of Jensen, perhaps some changes need to be made-anot not chord changes!

The solo on Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" is iconic, and it is based on the pentatonic scale, the same scale Eric Jensen finds to be so inferior due to its use of 5 notes rather than 12.

IIRC, Jensen was said to have been "flummoxed" when asked to name a 12 tone composition, so I think criticizing him is well justified, especially if he is being funded by FCPS.

One of the many good things about America is the freedom to express one's opinions. If someone does not like Eric Jensen, if someone thinks Bobby McFerrin has shown Jensen to be wrong, if someone thinks it is a waste of money for FCPS to hire Jensen, that is their right. You, of course, can disagree, but it seems as though your arguments veer onto very thin ice indeed when you denigrate McFerrin, a multiple Grammy winner, in favor of Jensen. One could, of course, tell YOU to go away, but that's not what's happening. Your repetitious, insult laden posts serve as vibrant testimony to the type person lending their support to the proposed meals tax.

We need to stop pretending the problem is wasteful spending at FCPS. Yes there is wasteful spending at FCPS and in the County government generally. It exists in most large enterprises, public and private, and it probably isn't worse in Fairfax then it is elsewhere.

The problem is larger. We are trapped on a course that seems to require ever expanding taxes for less and less real government benefits to most Fairfax residents. Even most advocates of the meals tax seem to admit that imposing a meals tax won't change this picture.

Since the real estate market bottomed out Fairfax has seen consistently good increases in assessed values, so that many neighborhoods are now at or are higher than the bubble prices. In addition rates have risen significantly to the point that we are paying significantly higher base rates than are imposed by either Arlington or Alexandria.

Despite this record of real estate tax revenue increases at percentages that many jurisdictions would envy, Fairfax County has lurched from shortfall to shortfall. The reason for this is that Fairfax has refused to recognize that the revenue patterns which existed in the real estate bubble will not exist. They need to re-evalute the county's, and especially the school system's spending to reflect a more sustainable cash flow stream. Imposing the meals tax will defer a re-evaluation which should have been made several years ago.

Very nice post. Yes, waste is their but there are systemic problems as well. I suspect this unchecked hiring of consultants is part of it.

The way out of this is not to anger and insult taxpayers with a stopgap solution (meals tax) but to engage them to working towards something that is sustainable.

As the title of this thread says, the meals tax is bad public policy. It will not solve the problem is is intended to address and it will make people angry.

When did fucking Grammy awards become emblematic of any sort of mental acumen at all? The list of total assfuck stupid people who have won Grammy awards is a very long one indeed. The simple facts here remain that FCPS's choice of Eric Jensen to speak at local schools was a perfectly proper an rational one, and NOTHING that you -- a typical worthless assfuck -- have to say about it matters one whit. You should simply go fuck off, you worthless troll. Go find something else to devote your total lack of talent to.

Go fuck yourself, you pathetic moron. No rational person opposes the meals tax. The simple facts here are that the County continues to grow and along with that growth comes a need for expanding revenue. If you knew the first fucking thing about it, you would know that a diverse tax base is an important objective of effective tax policy. The state for its own selfish reasons however has the County hemmed in and on a tight leash in this regard. There are only a few ways in which we can shift tax burden away from beleaguered property owners. The meals tax is one of them, and easily the most efficient and effective option. Only bad-brained assholes fail to see what is in fact perfectly obvious here.

Meals taxes are of course already in effect in all Virginia cities, in about half of our counties, and in more than 100 of our towns. No dire consequences have befallen these jurisdictions as the result. They have merely enjoyed more revenue and a more diverse tax base -- exactly what Fairfax County should be pursuing.

You've been schooled, douche.
