Car Tax Fairfax =Ridiculous

I got a close to ten year old truck with near 100 k miles, and the county wants $315. Plus the $25 decal fee for none at all? Taxation without representation and a bunch of bullshit. Where's our money go in this county?

Ffx county probably still prints decals but no longer ship them to customers. Huge postage savings.

The burden falls disproportionately hard on our enterprising senors and senoras, many of whom have three or four vehicles parked on the driveway and in the streets. Where is the justice and equality?

That doesn't seem right, expensive/nice truck? Sucks either way. Maryland is definitely better in this regard.

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta/cartax_veh_reg_fee.htm

Local Vehicle Registration Fee, Section 4-17.2-1
“There is hereby imposed by the Board of Supervisors a Local Vehicle Registration License Fee upon every motor vehicle, including but not limited to automobiles, trucks and motorcycles, regularly garaged, stored, or parked in the County.”

Translation: "Fuck you, pay us."

Hey, think about it this way, you could always go live in Montgomery or PG counties and pay 3.2% of your taxable income instead. Even if your taxable income is only $50k (fairly low around here) that's $1600. By comparison, $315 is a steal.

MD auto insurance is also much more expensive than VA.

It takes money to run a county and the property tax is a great way to raise that money.
With our system a loser with a 9 year old truck pays a hell of a lot less than a successful person who drives a couple of Benzies. It is a very fair way to tax people unlike the system in Maryland where a greater burden is put on the poor.

Stupid Gringo, Do what i do, get a Maryland license using some random address and register your car there. Whole neighborhoods in Springfield and Mount Vernon are loaded with MMMM's or Maryland Mexican Mystery Machines.

Blame the County BOS, no tax sticker, means no real enforcement. Pay up, Rosita just had another whelp for free @ Fairfax Hospital, you pay, Puto.

?? If you are under 18 and own a truck you owe tax on, congrats. If not, you can vote on Board of Supervisors and state representatives.

You are misusing a DC term that means owing federal taxes even though they don't have voting representatives or any senators in the US Congress.

Either pay the tax or move...either way, zero fucks given for what you think you're entitled to.

You're probably the same guy who buys a house next to a university and then wakes up in shock on Saturday and Sunday mornings when there's puke, piss and shit in their yard from drunk students getting back to their dorms.

Most seniors I know have old ass cars that the property tax is dirt cheap on.

I have a 1997 garage kept Mercury grand marquis with 27,000 miles on it and my tax is about 7 dollars a year. I also have a 03 mini pick-up that I pay about 170 bucks on.
