Appeals court strikes down North Carolina’s voter-ID law

The decision by a three-judge panel was an overwhelming victory for civil rights groups and the Justice Department that argued the voting law was designed to dampen the growing political clout of black voters, who participated in record numbers in elections in 2008 and 2012.

Most states required the use of Ids for pawn shops well before the Patriot act. In order to sell items, you would need to show id to stop/slow criminals from selling stolen items.

I'm required to show ID every time I vote, and every time I get on a plane, and every time I cash a check, and every time I go to the doctor, and every time I do anything. I'm so sick of showing my ID for bullshit.

Why is it racist to require someone to produce a valid picture ID to vote. I'm not talking about the NC laws where a drivers license was fine, but the welfare card used to purchase food wasn't.

Why is it virtually impossible and therefore racist for a black person to go get a free picture voter ID card to vote in elections? Not a fucking WIC, or power bill, or note from Epstein's mother. A free state issued picture ID card to be used to vote.

Because these things that you enumerate are privileges and/or commercial transactions, not a right enshrined in the Constitution -- you know, that document you carry around religiously, but haven't (perhaps can't?) actually read.

I'll help you here. The relevant parts are Amendments 15, 19, 24, and 26. Using a strict constitutionalist interpretation, this right, stated more times then any other in the constitution, clearly informs us that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged.

If you find this objectionable, then obviously you wouldn't mind a small alteration to the 2nd Amendment,say, one restricting the type and number of firearms citizens may posess.

In states where there is no voter ID, the GOP is already working on that...and voting for the recently deceased that weren't removed.

We could also issue all newly registered voters an acceptable ID at the time they registered. Then all you need to worry about is setting up a system to replace destroyed or lost IDs. That assumes of course that your only goal in requiring an ID is to preventvoter fraud.
