Oh god this going to be a clusterF! An app to pay for parking and colored lights hanging from the RTC parking lot ceilings. I can already see disaster.

Now available for free download: ParkRTC, an app you are going to need in a few weeks.

Reston Town Center is planning to begin paid parking in its seven garages on Aug. 1. It is encouraging town center visitors to get the free app from Apple or Google Play.

The app, which RTC owners Boston Properties calls a “significant enhancement” for customers, will store your credit card info and will be able to automatically pay for parking, which will cost $2 an hour on weekdays, say Reston Town Center representatives. Weekends, holidays and special events will remain free.

According to Reston Town Center’s FAQs on the subject:
“Reston Town Center has invested in this state of the art, virtual system which will allow you to quickly arrive at your destination and return to your car simply by entering a few digits on your mobile device. The ticketless parking system is based on license plate recognition, making it easier for you to enter and exit Reston Town Center.

A parking guidance system which uses red and green LED-based space indicators and electronic display boards will also guide you to available parking spaces.”
Reston Now downloaded the app, and found it fairly simple. It was easy to add cars (several people, such as family members, can share the same account) and payment info. Left blank was the FAQs section and the privacy policy, which has been a source of concern for some would-be visitors.

RTC says there will be additional ways to pay, including online at ParkRTC.com, using your phone to call and at pay stations in the town center.
Many stores will have validation. Look for a comprehensive list of stores soon. RTC says the validation system “also leverages the same technology the rest of the Park RTC system does and therefore also does not utilize tickets of any kind.”

What happens if you don’t pay? RTC says they will not be towing, but you will get a “notice that will be placed on your vehicle. If you choose not to register, your vehicle will be recorded by the system and subject to future additional enforcement.”


There have been several petitions protesting the move, and many residents say they will no longer visit town center during the week if they must pay.

RTC is an upscale destination. Legitimate customers will not be impacted at all by parking fees. The commuter dregs will be affected, as they should be. Three cheers to RTC for taking steps against the self-centered moochers.

Reston Town Center is a spot for neutered men to take their well-dressed whores to spend their money or fuck other guys. Reston Town Center is full of yuppie degenerates who all are on some sort of prescription or illegal drug regimen. I also fucking laugh at all the guys who spend money at these bars so that they can hook up with one of these used up sluts who have fucked at least another guy at the bar already.

A little secret. It's poor people who pay for shit. Rich people never tip and want everything for free. No way the rich people are going to be at the Town Center during the week. Maybe at Mortons with valet parking but that's about it.

RTC did themselves in with the paid parking. Watch as the Town Center becomes another ghetto from all the people riding the buses to the Town Center.

The Reston Town Center has been going down hill for a while. The stabbing at Clyde's was just another sign of the ghetto bus people infiltrating the place.

Lake Anne Plaza has free parking. A nice lake view, a couple of nice restaurants and now fresh micro-brew pub. Why would any one pay for parking for in Reston when their are so many free options.

Ummm... I am one the "rich people" in Great Falls.

Trust me, we have all decided enough of the silliness of paying for parking at the RTC. We can just as easily go to other Town Centers where we don't have the hassle of using some annoying phone app and paying for parking. Many of my neighbors are now going to Kalyso's and the new brew pub at Lake Anne. Lake Anne is actually a shorter distance than the RTC from our houses and cooler temps in evenings.

RTC employees OTOH will be impacted. Calling RTC upscale is a stretch, unless upscale has been severely downgraded. Many of the businesses that operate there are types that pay substantial numbers of their employees at $15/hour or less. Taking away $2/hour after taxes decreases their effective pay by 13% or more.

Its Kalypso. and I have eaten lunch there nearly a dozen times over the last year on sundays.... Far and away, the WORST service in the fucking world, at least in the bar service area.

food was OK. I like Lake Anne as well... But they need some more options for food.

I've never eaten at the bar. We have always had a table outside. The staff has always been friendly and the food is very reasonably priced for the Lake view. On many week nights the plaza has bands or a guy playing guitar. Also nice to view the 100 foot fountain in the lake.

I've not been to RTC in over 10 years and don't plan to return any time in the next 10.

staff is always friendly, and the food is ok. but just really fucking slow...

The beer at the brew house is good....$$$ but good...

I like Jackson's. We go there 5 or 6 times a year. There are other nice places at RTC as well, like Mon Ami Gabi, Passion Fish, and even Vapiano. If we had to pay a couple of bucks to park, it would be no big deal. We'd still go to those places whenever we felt like it.

There are plenty of open lots down the street at the shopping center areas a few blocks away. Why pay when you can walk a couple of blocks!

Who doesn't love over priced ho hum corporate food. Let's add a money grab for some fake ass commuter parking problem. All 6 of these moochers drive to RTC and then do what? They jump on a bus to the metro. Yeah...right. I suggest a 2 week boycott starting 12 September and wait for the business freak out. By Wait it gets better...those foolish enough to submit their phone and email address...SOLD...then your cell phone rings from numbers you don't recognize...I wonder why they are calling? What is all this new email I am getting. Boycott these bastards and make them squirm.

We pulled into one of the garages yesterday (Sunday) and saw the signs about signing up for the app and if you back into a space your car will be booted, blah blah. I said let's get outta here - there are other places to go where you don't have to give up your credit card or personal info or worry about your car getting booted. Someone said they don't charge on weekends but I didn't see any signage to that effect.

Not much reason to go to RTC as it is now. Clyde's, Bar Taco, Barcelona all fine places, and I'll continue to visit them on (for now) free parking weekends. Simply no reason to go to RTC during the week. Employees' designated parking is several blocks away-just the thing the closing staff needs at 2 am in the Winter. I've lived in/around Reston for over 20 years. Whole place is becoming Rockville. Fuck it, I'm outta here.
