How to get to the mall on July 4th?

I was thinking about taking the metro out to Arlington Cemetery, then crossing the Arlington Memorial Bridge on foot, then bam, right at the Lincoln Memorial. Good idea?

No. You can just drive in and park on Independence Ave. I do it every year.

I was thinking of that, but the problem is I'm going with a large group of friends (12, maybe?) and we don't have a large enough vehicle for that.

No worries, Hank...everybody leaves the DC area for 4th of July so, there's never any traffic downtown. Also, DCPD lifts their restriction on parking in front of fire hydrants on the 4th of July. The fireworks start at 9:15 so, as long as you're down there by 9pm pulling into one of the hundreds of vacant parking spots on the National Mall, you'll get a great spot to see the fireworks.

I park on Memorial Bridge around 9:05. Just make sure you get out of your car quickly so a cop can't yell at you to move on. They don't have time or patience to call in illegally parked vehicles by then. Watch fireworks and dash off before traffic.

Oh yeah...totally good call right there. Yeah, you can just pull at a 45 degree angle on the ol' Memorial right about 9:05pm. Yep...you'll only block 4 or 5 cars behind you for maybe 4 minutes, whilst they fire everything off and then you can get right back in your car and head home. Excellent call, sir.
