Bunch of Swift Water Boats Near Potomac in Great Falls

I saw a bunch of swift water rescue boats last night near Algonquin Park last night. I think they may have been looking for two body in the Potomac. Not sure if they pulled any out.

- POINT OF ROCKS, Md. (WUSA9) - Two boaters missing in the upper Potomac River launched early Sunday, a few hours after a rapid rise in river levels that came without warning.

Sixty-two-year-old Lawrence Walter Grey Jr. of Brunswick Md, and 51-year-old Robert Evonnne Lee of Frederick have not been seen since 9-1-1 callers reported seeing at least one man clinging to a log in the river about 9:30 Sunday morning near the US 15 bridge at Point of Rocks. The men’s 14-foot fishing boat was found more than a mile downstream by rescuers.

The men launched from a Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries boat ramp at 5am Sunday for a morning of fishing.

National Weather Service river level data shows the Potomac jumped about three feet from the caution stage for boaters to the danger stage for boaters during a four hour period Saturday when the weather in the area was sunny and pleasant. The rapid rise in river level came without warning.

The high water was likely the result of heavy rains that fell in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia Thursday resulting in a pulse of muddy water arriving downstream in Point of Rocks two days later, according to the National Weather Service in Sterling. Some areas in Hampshire County West Virginia recorded nearly 4 and a half inches of rain.

Looks like both bodies were found on June 8th

Lee was found about 4 p.m. Tuesday near where the boat capsized at Point of Rocks. Grey was found late Tuesday about 30 miles downstream at Great Falls.
