Most water types, including police, Coast Guard, SeaTow and marinas monitor either channel 16 or 68.

Be careful. FFXPD has limited jurisdiction on Potomac waters. Know your watermarks. Put in MD DNR, MPD Harbor, and the USCG in your phone bank.

Maryland Owns 95 % of the Potomac River and DC Harbor patrol responds to calls as well as Maryland DNR . FXCO Marine Police ..what a waste of money..To look out for a handful of Fairfax Marinas on the Occoquan?? Prince William PD does that and they have more marinas on their side, and down the river As police they have jurisdiction in all of Va if there's something serious..Get rid of this wasted FXPD effort once and for all. Its been a issue for years..The BOS almost did it several years ago.. Then Bilged....Cut um loose..Shove um off..Back into patrol cars where they belong.

Never trust a cell phone for a marine emergency, That's why you carry or have an installed marine radio Ch 16 for USCG. Or DC Harbor Patrol. Cell phones are only backup.

To The Fire Dept for more water rescue craft up river..The Potomac River is a take off & landing flyover for National.. Thousands fly over the river every day and FXCO does not have Jack Shit to rescue anyone up river.

Near the WW Bridge..Some years back 3 people died there when the Medevac Helo they were on hit a crane over the bridge construction..plus many marine emergencies and rescues by DC harbor patrol, small sail boats, small fishing boats.. you never know and FX is not prepared at all.

Look at the big rescue boat the City of Alex has now.. FCFD should have a rescue boat on a boat lift/ boat house ready to go at Belle Haven Marina. Instead of wasting money on a Marine Police..And theres plenty of places at Belle Haven it can go..

If an airliner goes down there they will need DC Harbor Patrol/USCG/MD DNR at National Harbor/Alex FD and everybody else they can get to help..Look what happened in New York with Hero Pilot Sully Sullenberger putting the airliner down safely in the River, and there were many boats there for the rescue..

FFX marine monitor 16 and 9. They will respond to emergencies out of the county and out of the state. They have assisted in Mattawoman Creek as well as many areas in the Potomac numerous times. Many years ago everyone knew them well (Mike & Mike) as they were very personable.

The navigatable Potomac from WW bridge north is DC's jurisdiction, not Fairfax

Who the Hell spoke about DC.?? Belle Haven Marina near the WW bridge is not in DC and that water and the Marina there is in The State Of Va and Fairfax County.... "Captain"

>(Mike & Mike) as they were very personable..

Well Excuse the shit out of Me! Very personable Huh!

Piss on wasting money on the FXPD Marine Police..

Butthurt the Glory Gravy Ride may end???

Put that Wasted Marine Police Money into a FCFD rescue boat..and protect everyone on the river where it counts..

Sounds like a bunch of butt hurt fire fighters posting in here.

Got a question...why do they call fire fighters...fire fighters. Not many fires in Fairfax. They spend most of their time going to medical calls and accidents.

It makes sense to support a rescue boat on the river where planes fly over, not to support a 1/2 million dollar police presence on the lower Potomac .Where Maryland owns the River. Mattawoman Creek..Thats deep into Maryland and Maryland has hundreds of DNR water police.. Like at Smallwood park down there..Spend the money where it can save lives.. and that's with a Fairfax County fire rescue boat to aid Alex/DC/USCG and the Maryland DNR..down river from the WW Bridge..since Fairfax has got nothing there at all. If vpolice are trained to use the boat and have EMS training fine they can take it out. Who ever gets their .. Whats the bitching about.. Save Lives that's what its about..and a rescue boat makes way more sense then a police boat down Occoquan..Joy riding round..

^^ and That's The Truth!..^^ Whats more important giving a Jet Ski a Ticket.. for a Occoquan Yacht club wake ,Or Saving lives..The mid Potomac off Fairfax County Does Need a Rescue boat there 24/7 and not on a trailer in a Fire station like they used to have at Penn Daw.. Yet the County spends a bunch of money on a Marine Police Patrol...FXCO BOS get the priorities here in Order!

please tell us what you know about ultra reliable marine tracking systems and dead reckoning that do not involve unreliable consumer GPS - also your experiences with marine communications across miles of sea water with or without satellite

let me tell you what i know

china has recently release a new line of maritime equipment 1/2 price of those commonly found in today's "boats"

they have more features for less price and obama.gov is installing them in gov vessels.

they no longer support channel 16 and 18 - but whether the devices transmitt to which satellite is not know.

meanwhile some countries commercial fleets are not responding to lane availability requests per maritime agreements and appear to be using encrypted messaging with other fleets - using the similar equipment rebranded, though how the feature works is not in the documentation sold in usa

now let's talk about fire control panels, sensors, their country of origin, the number of models, vast lack compatibility between: and the costs of it all to the tax paying consumer

shall we?

That's the truth.. The river is a flyover to and from National, all along Fairfax County shore from the WW Bridge To Mt Vernon. If your a Captain you should know that.. The issue is a Rescue Craft for Fairfax County! Not Alex, DC or Md. they all have them..

Up River Not some Useless Police boat down Occoquan..Whats your bitch about a rescue boat? Instead of wasting money on a Police crew and boat??

1/2 a million a Year for a FCPD Police boat and crew / gas /repairs is a Huge WASTE of Money.. Spend 1/2 mil Once 200 k a year for training/ rescue operations/gas/maint/and future replacement and give the rest ...300K to the schools from then on.
