Not independent, but Saxby's at University Mall is locally owned by the same people who own the movie theater there and Cinema Arts in Fair City Mall. They offer free WiFi and and the area in the back has some comfortable chairs where you can read the paper or surf the web in relative peace and quiet.

Given a choice I would rather put money in their pocket than any of the nearby Starbuck's.

That movie theater is a disgrace and should be condemned... those people are horrid business owners doing a disservice to the community.

Sweet Life Cafe probably has coffee and coffee drinks. However, I think its owned by the Mayer of Fairfax who conveniently rezoned that space for retail after being elected, and after other people tried to do same thing.

Its at 123 across from Juvie court, Auld Shebeen and Potbellys

I love Panera Bread (three locations in Fairfax) but it's not independent. La Madelaine is good (Reston and Tysons). I also like Greenbriar (Reston and McLean) - great selection of coffee and tea

I know its not close to where you are asking, but Jammin Java on Maple is about the best independent coffee shop in NOVA.

I noticed this morning that Jamie's General Bean has closed for good. I searched around a little this morning and could only find a posting on Don Bridge's website that said she had sold to another entrepreneur so that she could concentrate on other locations. Anybody know anything else?

A reliable source told me that PEET'S might open in the Johnson Center in the space where Starbucks was located near the bookstore.

PEET'S was passing out freebies last week.

Not an independent, but still not a massive chain.

There's a thread on here trashing the fuck out of Jamie. I liked her place in C'ville.

All... I know this is an old thread - but we'd love you to stop by and try us out! Our beans are never older than 14 days and we don't do 'automatic' espresso. Try our 12 hour slow brew!!

Thanks
