66 inside beltway toll for dulles airport

I know it's legal to use 66 inside the beltway during HOV times if you are coming/going to Dulles Airport... is there going to be a new EZ-Pass to let the cops/toll collectors know that you are going to the airport and not charge a toll? or will airport traffic now be tolled? Has Congress been told they will be tolled?

If you are not certain of the exact procedures when it comes to using the toll road, it is probably best if you stay off of the road completely.

In fact, it would be best for all concerned if you stayed away from Dulles Airport, no the entire Washington, D.C. Metro area.

There aren't any tolls on I-66.

I've been looking for this info as well. Everything I've read has not specificaly said how the airport lanes will be handled under the new regime.

"What was theoretically finalized in late 2015 was converting the existing peak-direction HOV-2 lanes to HOT-2, an agreement to spend the majority of toll revenue on transit projects in the corridor, eliminating exemptions for hybrid cars, Dulles Airport traffic, and law-enforcement cars so that all single-driver cars had to pay the toll, and an agreement that Virginia would not widen I-66 without first studying the effects of the tolls and transit.

It's that final part, the agreement not to widen, that's now changing. The remainder of the 2015 deal, including tolling, dedicating most revenue to transit, and eliminating the various HOV exemptions, will continue."

Governor McAullife and his roads people will be putting up tolling towers on both 395 and 66 inside the beltway...soon...for 24/7 tolling...

But...66 inside the beltway has a special exemption ... for Dulles airport access/egress...

I'm not sure that the Governor has the authority to charge a toll on 66 inside the beltway for Dulles Airport access/egress...

It is my understanding that the HOV exemption is based on a Congressional funding thing from back when 66 inside the beltway, 267 inside the beltway and the Dulles access road were built...unbutton I haven't got any documentary evidence...

Call VDOT and ask someone there who's in-the-know.

Then, report back.

The new variable HOT tolls (expected to average $6 per one-way trip) will affect all workday traffic on I-66 inbound between 530 and 930 in the morning, and outbound between 300 and 700 in the afternoon. It won't matter anymore if you are going to or coming from the airport or drive an alt-fuel vehicle. The toll systems should be up and operational by late 2017. You will need an EZ-Pass Flex to use 66 in tolled hours and directions. Cars with two occupants would be toll-exempt at the start, three occupants will be required starting in late 2020 or early 2021.

Eastbound 66 will meanwhile be widened by reconfiguring and extending the existing 267 merge lane to travel under Lee Highway and down to Glebe Road. This will be done entirely within the existing I-66 right-of-way and will mimic the recently completed extra westbound lane between Glebe and Sycamore. Construction on the new eastbound lane should start in 2017 and be completed in 2019.

Only $6 to drive on a road i've already paid for to fund a metro line I'll have to pay $5.90 to use...

Thank G_d for our Democrat governor...

Babble, babble, babble. Tolls on the Dulles Toll Road help pay for Silver Line construction because reduced traffic volumes make Toll Road users among the most direct beneficiaries of the Silver Line.

HOT tolls on 66 inside the Beltway will go toward transit-oriented projects in the I-66 corridor, mostly through Arlington. Keep in mind that virtually no Arlington County drivers use I-66 in the rush hour. Arlington residents bear the brunt of the inconvenience that 66 causes, but it is Fairfax and the western counties that reap the lion's share of the benefits.

Well, the Republican ones have all been disasters. No news there, though.

You're right... it sounds very much like a Republican solution...thanks...

I think it probably is a smart traffic solution...

Well, it really isn't such a partisan matter, except in the fact that the anti-toll me-me-me-me yahoos out in the boondocks of west county and beyond tend to be more Republican than the better socialized folks of east county and Arlington.

> I think it probably is a smart traffic solution...

We'll see. It may be that the estimated average one-way toll of $6 will be enough to ration service. It may also be that some other number would be better. The hope is to maintain an average speed of not less than 45 MPH between the Beltway and the TR Bridge, but with no HOV restrictions, that may be tougher to achieve than people have thought. Or it could be easier. We'll have a better idea once we have some data.

Put in two extra lanes both ways inside 66 all the way to the 193/Roosevelt Bridge split. Fuck those pussy beta faggots in Falls Church and Arlington. Other than in a court of law, these cucks couldn't win a fight against a 5 year old girl in a wheel chair.

Interesting. I have never before equated "socialized" with "acclimated to living in cages" until now. It fits perfectly.

Thank you!

I'm having trouble finding that on a map.

That's why we HAVE courts of law and the rule of law -- to keep the crass barbarians at bay.

In this case, "socialized" was meant to refer to differences between the more refined, civilized, and cooperative peoples of the east and the coarse, reckless, and self-serving barbarians of the west.
