The store was much more hippy but I wanted to post under the same message. The rent got too high for us so we couldn't rent out the room anymore. The store shut down shortly after that.

your wire skills and wrap work is unfinished-looking and uneven in quality. beyond that. . .it's common looking. it's all just really really derivative in terms of design. It looks like stuff from the mid-nineties.

Maybe try and get out of your comfort zone and try to fucking compose a piece without spirals?

Just a suggestion from a trained artist.

I think we can speak without feeling tough by the word "fucking".
Also, I'd love to see some of your work! Believe it or not I love all kinds of art...and would love to see what you specialize in. Thanks so much!

So my jewelry store has officially been online since the end of September and I'm beyond pleased with the positive feedback and awesome response. I've finally gotten over 100 items listed!
I'll always miss the store in fairfax but how great to have a venue to still sell my handmade pieces. :)

I love/hate posting here.
I suppose I can start by saying the insults don't bother me...just seem like a waste of time. But insult away if necessary!

I always try to update this post every once in awhile. I have finally returned to the Fairfax area and was lucky enough to participate in a jewelry show in August. Incredible experience!

It was nice to return to this site [after 2 years of driving by what remains of the old Grateful Gardens' venue on 29] to see all of the rude comments left by bitter people who certainly must lack an appreciation for local artists (or perhaps art in general). I happen to miss the ambience and the people who ran this shop and all its convenience having used to live right down the street from it. You are all beautiful and awesome, and I hope you're all still doing your thing in Reston/hope to come out soon and visit!

Everyone in America who has a business, no matter how stupid and worthless, should post here every few weeks to let us know how it's going.

Hey Katie!

Just wanted to say thank you for having the courage to dream and to start something of your own. I will definitely be checking your store out. :D

Perhaps you need to give up on your unsuccessful business ventures. Nobody wants to buy this crap because the only people who like it are too busy trying to make and sell it themselves.

You crystal worshippers are as batshit as Loch Ness and Bigfoot believers.

Unique Thrift Store is a bad place.

1) It is filthy and unhealthy.

2) It attracts all sorts of riff raff, you can't go anywhere in that shopping center without the Unique scum harassing you.

3) It is a scam. It is operated by FOR PROFIT Apogee Retail. They buy donations to REAL charities for next to nothing and resell at a profit. If you want to help a charity, shop at Clock Tower or some similar place.

4) Unique claims to be liberal with its employees, especially those with special needs. This is a lie. They fired a woman for not stapling properly. They wrote a scathing memo denouncing a woman as unfit to collect unemployment. When she protested and a hearing was set, Unique did not show. They claimed to have had a fire alarm. That was 6 hours before the hearing. The guy who screwed this up protested, his only justification was that he was a member of the Black MBA Association. Whee.

So just avoid the place. Maybe it will get torn down as part of the Mosaic District expansion. Maybe Mr. Black MBA can get a job at KFC or something.
