R.I.P. DENNIS ROSS
Posted by: Friend ()
Date: July 25, 2009 10:48PM

Today we mourn the passing of our friend Dennis Ray Ross Jr. He entered a coma a few days ago after an accident involving a motor vehicle, and today he has passed.

Let us keep Dennis in our prayers. A Westfield '08 graduate and a soon-to-be-Marine, Dennis had a lot ahead of him in life.

R.I.P. good friend.

To properly critique this tool, we need to know what happened?

How fast? Over 100? Drunk? What did he wrap the car around? A tree?

C'mon, DETAILS!

And there was probably alcohol or heroin involved? Sounds like it was 100% preventable. What is wrong with these kids that go to/graduated from Westfield?

If the details that were mentioned above are true, then I'd expect a lawsuit to be filed against the driver of the truck. Isn't it illegal for people to ride in the back of pick up trucks on public roads in VA?

There is nothing wrong with the students from Westfield. It's an extremely large high school and there are bound to be some unfortunate events that take place among the students regardless of whether or not they are preventable. What happened to Dennis was tragic and the untimely. Even if illegal substances were involved he did not deserve to die at such a young age. Show some respect for the dead.

RIP Dennis, you will be missed.

For real. People need to learn when to not joke around through.

To the OP, Sorry about your loss. I would have liked to see someone have the opportunity to serve their Nation as well, which makes it even more of a shame. God Bless.

His BAC level was .19 the same as the Alexandria police chief when his body was found on the road. He was in the back of the pickup truck drinking and shooting up heroin.

To those who are posting so light-heartedly on this page, please remember you are joking about someone's life that is now gone. Though the circumstances were unfortunate, and though the activities being partaken in are not held to the highest esteem, respect the fact that a young man, with a future and family is now dead.

Rest in peace, Dennis. Enjoy your heaven.

this was created to honor and remember Dennis Ross and keep his memory alive. this is not somewhere to make assumptions and judge the situation. Dennis was an amazing young man, his smile lit up a room, his hugs used to put me in the best mood, and the memories i have of my 4 years of friendship with him will stay with me forever. There was no heroin involved, to make that suggestion simply because he was a westfield graduate is pathetic. there were over 700 kids that graduated in our 08 class and although a few had addiction problems, it does not mean that we all did. Dennis was a lively person with a good head on his shoulders. A football player and soon to be marine, not a drug addict. As for Johnny my heart goes out to him and our friends support everyone that was involved in the situation. there is no one to blame, this is no one's fault, this was a very unfortunate and tragic accident. Please show some respect for Dennis and his family and friends as we all struggle through this.

RIP Dennis Ray Ross Jr.
I love you so much.

A slight digression, if you will excuse me. The link to Johnny Pickett's UVa bio says that he was a walk on, as well as a redshirt, freshmam player last year. I have to conclude that he did not, as a freshman, have a "full ride" at UVa. Things may have changed, and he was given scholarship money for the remaining 3-4 years, but I doubt it.

Free ride or not, if he was driving the automobile that Ross bailed out of or was tossed from, it would be logical that his UVa football careeer is over.

so whoever is posting the negative comments about wether it was an accident, or there were drugs or alcohol involved then you can fuck off. To whoever wrote them, please tell me you have never drank an ounce of alcohol in your life, you are simple pathetic. He was 18 years old,no one deserves to die at that age. Also don't just assume since he is a teenager that there are illegal substances involved. He was simply having fun with his friends, there were fireworks involved and he jumped out of the back of the pick up truck. Let me point a firework at you and see if you don't get the fuck out of the way. Have ya'll never heard of the saying "if you dont have anything nice to say don't say it all"? Do you honestly have nothing else better to do with your life then to comment negatively on someone's death. I knew dennis well and he was the type to have fun and mess around, he was a normal teenager that had a lot to offer in the future. It's unfortunate that he had to go the way he did. Nothing can bring him back.

Yeah, maybe, and the plaintiffs will be awarded a huge and uncollectible judgement.

If the moron that was driving owned the vehicle, if he had insurance at all, he probably had the minimum required in Va. $25000/50000. The insurance company will pay the 25 grand and split. Any excess judgement will be meaningless. The moron driver will just have to work "under the table" for the rest of his life.

Now, if the vehicle was owned by daddy, and daddy has assets. Then the plaintiffs might collect something. But it won't be bazillions, courts have formulas as to what a life is "worth". A single, 18 year old punk with no responsibilities (family) will be on the lower end of the scale, particularly since the deceased was no innocent victim. He was fucking around and shit went wrong. Happens every day.

Note to all: Never allow your kids' cars to be in your name, especially if they're dumb fucks, which 99% are!

I believe we ARE judging this "book by it's cover". The cover of the book depicts a teenager splattered against a paved road.

Regardless of the fact this site isn't a memorial, it still isn't necessary to make this situation appear funny in any way. There's NOTHING humorous about a teenager losing his life, and the fact that anyone could make a joke about a kid dying so young is just saddening...

Rest in peace man.

If he did something stupid to contribute to his own death:

1. That makes it kinda funny
2. The world hasn't lost much
3. Thank god he did it before wasting our tax dollars

If he DID NOT contribute to his own death through stupidity:

1. He will be missed and the world has lost much.

For all of you that are talking so negativley about a young man who just wanted to enjoy his youth and was looking foward to serving our country you all should be ashamed of yourselfs... Karma will catch up with you people someday maybe a year from now or even tomorrow but you will understand how it feels to be talked about so bad when your life is takin away. Just think about if this thread was about you when your presence is no longer with us. Dennis didnt choose to leave this world it was takin from him.

&& i also know J.Pickett and he would NEVER purposely take away one of his friends lives so all of you need to pray for BOTH families rather than bash them.

My heart goes to BOTH famililes...i know how it feels to lose someone you love and i know how hard it is but you will find strength and you will overcome <3

ughhhh what did i say about the karma argument earlier......if karma is true then what did your friend do that was so bad that he died in such a stupid way. wait i know, he must have had a registered name here and participated in the other threads where the dead persons friend said we were all gonna die because karmas a bitch. and just like johnny walker, when i die my friends wont flock here to tell random people who don't know/care about me in any way that i was a great person who never should have died. everyone dies, unfortunately teenagers usually die for being stupid.

Im currently a westfield student. I never knew dennis but i do know people that did.and what the man said above me is correct. some idiotic youth threw a firework while he was in the back of a moving pick up truck, he jumped out tryiong too avoid the object and unfortunetly cracked his skull on the pavement.....one of the most preventable ways too die....evan more preventable then substance abuse...fucking idiots bashing the fuck out of westfield because some students have problems. fuck that.

r.i.p my good sir dennis ross.

I didn't really know Dennis very well but I just wanted to say that regardless of what the exact circumstances were, drinking and goofing around does not make someone a "air-polluting loser" or any of these other ridiculous remarks. Perhaps I can understand the jokes after the death of a celebrity, or some absurd death on the news, because the maker of the joke was not personally involved with the dead...but this particular case is someone that lived around here and the trolls here are purposefully saying ignorant rude things that in no way whatsoever could be construed as funny even objectively when they KNOW close friends of the deceased are reading. I don't care if this website isn't a good place for memorials, but next time one of your close friends, or your son, or your brother is dead...would you enjoy seeing a bunch of cretons exploit their death in an untrue and downright immature fashion? If you ask me, the negative commenters here are the "air-polluting losers" and the like. Jokes are jokes, random insults directed toward the mourning of a friend....that's no joke. It's not funny to anyone and you're just trying to get a high from deeply hurting someone else. If you weren't hiding behind an anonymous computer screen and actually standing in public discussing this, I'm sure you would be too cowardly and feel ashamed for saying the things you have to the face of the mourning.

Nothing I said had anything to do with me, don't denounce it for reasons that don't make sense just because you know it's true and that's all you could come up with. The senseless parasites that lurk this site are the ones who should be looked down upon, not someone who was about to serve our country. Next time you so lovingly enjoy throwing hate about on the internet, appreciate the safety of your home that's kept for you to enjoy your pathetic hate-mongering life in by those who serve the country.

and as far as all this Westfield bullshit goes, it's hard to even get a job for the good students who went there because of emotional leeches like you. It's the most populated in the state, with nearly 4,000 students at times, of course it may appear that more unfortunate or criminal events happen to us than other schools. Then ignorant assholes like you guys come along and literally damage our chances of getting good jobs or being taken seriously because of the ridiculous public opinion you have represented all of us as a whole school by. It's no different than the concept of judging an entire race for the crimes that only certain individuals of their race ever actually commit.

Half of you are no better than Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church, waving signs of hellish condemnation outside the fence of a military funeral.
it's dispicable.

Apparently the passenger in the pick-up truck truck threw the firecracker into the bed. So Dennis had no idea that it was coming. The kid who threw the firecracker should be charged, in my opinion (if this is true).

This guy was getting ready to "serve his country"? He jumped out of a moving vehicle to avoid a firecracker! Sounds like Karma did the U.S. Military a favor by taking this guy out before his panic-bitch actions potentially took the lives of some good soldiers.

Hopefully you don't try to teach me a lesson by throwing fireworks into the bed of the pick I'll be riding around in this weekend...I think I learned that lesson on page 1.

Honestly, have some respect. If not for Dennis, then for his family. The last thing they need to see are terrible, negative posts. Regardless of the circumstances of his death, or any other persons death there is no need for all the negative comments. It's immature and cowardly. This kid was going to be a Marine to protect your freedom. Something none of you will have the balls to do, seeing as how you post shitty comments on a thread about someones death that you don't even know. Have some respect, and shut the fuck up.

You have no idea what people on here have and have not done. I've already done my service for this country, something your friend never did. It's all well and good that he had the intentions to do it, but you can't wave the hero flag for someone who never served a single day.

I know plenty of people who had the intentions to serve and washed out for any number of poor decisions along the way, he just happened to make his poor decision before he could even claim to be a soldier

Why the hell would you jump out of a moving truck unless a gun was being pointed at you? Common sense would be to hit the bed of the truck and cover up. Worst case is you get badly burned on your arms or legs, assuming you're wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt.

I think common sense would tell you to jump out. From what I've heard, the truck was going very slow, around 10mph. I doubt you would just cover your head when a firecracker was within inches of you. I would have jumped, too.

Rest in Peace Dennis, you will be missed. Dennis was a great kid with an amazing smile and great outlook on life. People in this world are all extremely judgemental, not completely excluding my self. But when it comes to the life of a young man who could have gone on to do amazing things, and make an amazing life for himself, we need to step back and realize a great life full of potential is now gone. Unfortunately, a mistake was made, everyone makes them. It is extremely disheartening that someone had to die due to a error in judgement. It saddens my heart to think about lives ending so early, especially happy and positive people like Dennis. My thoughts and Prayers go out to his family and friends in this tough time.

As for Johnny is concerned, he is an amazing kid with a bright future. Johnny worked hard to make the football team at UVa and has so much to look foward to in his life. He is an amazing young man and would have done anything to help Dennis. He has a huge heart and I can guarantee that it was broken the day his dear friend died. He will go on to do amazing things and live a life Dennis would be proud of. He is an excellent athlete, and has a great head on his shoulders. Again, everyone makes mistakes, just because he was driving the truck does not mean it was his fault this terrible accident occured. And to wish even more hurt upon a great person and friend like Johnny, when Dennis has passed away and his friends and family are already suffering, is absolutely disgraceful.

Rest in Peace Dennis. You will be missed. Keep everyone smiling in heaven! <3

Can't imagine his parents reading this forum, unless somepunk kid "friend" feels to share. Aren't the parents busy doing something else? as others have pointed out this is not legacy.com

Along with massive drinking, encouraged and hosted by parents, who believe they can provide shelter in the basement to the young drunks.
