That's a shame. They had really good prices on some nice things. A liquidation sale would be nice though.

That rarely happens these days. Liquidators are called in to try to get as much out of inventory as they can. They mark everything up to MSRP, hang signs that say "STORE CLOSING - 40% OFF EVERYTHING!!!" and dopes line up to buy it for more than they would have during a typical 20% off sale. By the time that prices drop to what really would be 40% off anything worthwhile is long gone.

I bought a TV from Circuit City when they were closing down. I bought the extended warranty, and the TV has now stopped working.

The guy that sold me the TV said the warranty made it a lifetime coverage.

I cannot find a place that will honor this warranty. What should I do?

A private equity firm owns Sports Authority. They specialize in buying troubled companies for peanuts, pick the bones, and close them down. Ever heard of Hechinger's? The same firm "rescued" Hechinger's.

Among many others, they also own Rite Aid and Petco. Don't be surprised if one of them is next. They are very good at what they do.

Sports Authority sold overpriced garbage and hired know-nothing losers. They are the K-Mart of sporting goods. No one will miss them. Hopefully Modell's will follow them down the toilet soon.

Sports Authority gambled big by stocking each store with 10,000 RG3 jerseys.

They made a bad bet (as did Danny S).

They've been in bankruptcy for a couple of months. Creditors shot down their first plan for reorganization. They'll need to take more serious actions now. Life can be hard when you're owned by a hedge fund.

For all we know, the hedge fund's plans for Sports Authority were executed perfectly. Successfully operating a sporting goods joint was probably the farthest thing from their minds---making money was.

There is likely much laughter in the board room about now.

How exactly is it to the benefit of the 'hedge fund' when the company that it put its money into loses money quarter after quarter and then goes out of business? In this case virtually certain to never to emerge.

You dopes remind me of the tards whining about 'market makers' on stock forums.

Yep, your right about the guns and ammo thing. Kmart made the same miscalculation and also went out of business.

Pressured by liberals in the Fairfax county government to stop selling anything that a man might be interested in. The illegals picked up the slack for a few years but they always end up either stealing more than they bought or would simply use the item and return it when they were done with it. Both of which further cut into the store's profit margin.

The only reason any man that wasn't a "mangina" went into Kmart was to peruse the guns and archery equipment while the wife was looking at clothes or whatever it is that women piss money away on. I'd always pick up a few boxes of .45 ACP or 9 mm and occasionally buy some hunting, camping, or automotive stuff while I was in there,

However when they stopped selling everything but paintball and BB guns I quit shopping there. A retail business cannot disregard what 50% of it's clientele is interested in an expect to stay in business very long.

Radio Shack is headed in the same direction but for a different reason.

Bill and Hillary Clinton used to work for this firm. They're taking the brand nationwide next year.

Actually I do. Which is why I want to hear you try to explain how Leonard Green is making out on this 'great deal.'

But then we both know that you're just talking out of your ass so feel free to continue to try to avoid the question with responses like this.

The last time I was in the Sport Authority at Fair Lakes it sucked. The selection was better at Kmart.

Back in the day Sports Authority had some way cool stuff and then it went to all overpriced junk.

Dicks, REI or Kmart are all I need.

They once sold guns and had a great business, they fell in with the Democrat gun grabbers who have no loyalty and go anywhere else to save a dime.

No fishing equipment worth a damn. Cheap exercise equipment, cheap bikes, Good riddance. I would have sold any stock in the company as soon as the guns went.

The same road Hermans went down after they gave in to the grabbers..

LOL! Ah, yes, guns are the answer to everything.

REI says 'Hey, Cletus we don't sell guns and are doing fine.'

Shouldn't you be getting drunk and shooting beer cans off your pickup truck in your front yard. Why don't you use your 30 minutes of internet time on your cell plan for more constructive means.

Don't expect much out of these clueless babblers. They are all mouth. Housewives gossiping over the back fence are better informed and much more interesting. My own guess would be that LGP is a lot happier just now with its investments in things like J. Crew, Lucky jeans, Shake Shack, and the Container Store than they are about the debt they took on ten years ago to pick up Sports Authority. Win some, lose some.

The Fair Lakes store does suck. I think all the employees in there are part of the Fisher Price "My first Job" program.

Still wondering when deals will be offered.

It's not just the lack of guns that makes Sports Authority suck, just a shitty selection & high prices on everything.

The Fair Lakes shop is just a few stores down from a Modell's & 3 minutes from a Dick's. Poor planning, but they went under because they don't sell guns? Not fucking likely.

We hardly need stores anymore. I'd rather buy close to wholesale online. Paying $100 for something that cost $3 to make is corporate welfare.

Circuit City never sold a "lifetime" extended warranty.

If your TV is really that old, it's due for an upgrade anyway.

Farewell, Tysons/Route 7 Sports Authority! I always hated you!

I always left that store angry. Would go there to buy soccer cleats and equipment for two little kids- but never could find a salesperson to help. Ok, maybe a few times, some pimply faced, rude, disenchanted teenage employee might mumble and point half-heartedly in the direction of cleats, but that was it. Too bad. I am easily every SA salesperson's dream...a mom with zero knowledge of sports and plenty of cash and time.

No hustle, no customer service, no interaction until it was time to pay. Terrible service. Like Best in their dying days. Or Woodies.

Barnes and Noble, watch it! You are next.
