Hello, I am interested in getting into fishing and I was wondering what are some good places to catch edible fish around this area? Posts based on direct experience would be the most appreciated. Thank you.

Possibly Burke lake, I know it's heavily fished though. I wouldn't eat any fish from these rivers etc since everything is contaminated.

Go to Dicks and ask the guy working in the fish department.

Easiest way is to get you and 5 of your friends and charter a boat. All tackle, bait, and licenses are paid for. Trip usually runs about $100 per person not including tip, which is about a 6 hour trip.

Both the Rod n' Reel in Chesapeake beach and the marina at Kent narrows offer these types of charters.

It's probably the best way to go since you would spend about that much on a rod and reel, tackle and bait anyway.
Right now the big catch is rockfish, but just explain to the captain what kind of fish you're looking to catch and he'll make sure you have a good time.
Both marinas offer fish cleaning for a fee, and I personally feel safe eating fish from the Chesapeake, although like any top predator fish one must be aware of the higher levels of mercury present in them, so limit your consumption to no more than one serving per week.

Good luck and hope you have a great day on the water.

This guy is asking for serious information, and instead you post a slang term for penis. For shame!

The carp swimming around the spill over at the Lake Accotink damn are plentiful. Given the amount of asians that catch their meals there I am guessing they are very tasty.

On Google you can look up Charlie Taylor fishing for area fishing reports. I am not sure what kind of fish you want to catch, but catfish fishing in Burke Lake and Fountainhead also crappie at both locations.

Rockfish season opens in May.

Most of my friends fish on ponds or lakes towards the mountains. I would recommend Lake Fairfax but keep in mind you may need an additional permit to fish in Lake Fairfax for certain species. You can buy the permit at the park for something like $12.

You may also want to try fishing Lake Audubon in Reston near the dam. You can park by the pool off Twin Branches, you also park on Twin Branches. Cast small spinners.

Your best bet is to head down to Lake Anna, about 2 hours south of Fairfax.

Go to pets Mart and buy a bag of gold fish and a tank and just fish in your kitchen. For added fun add a bunch of ice and you can even go ice fishing!

River herring and Rock fish are now banned in most places. Most of the rivers in Virginia are posted not to eat the fish in them. Catfish are plenty full in the Potomac if you dare to eat one. The state of Maryland has it's own fishing reports. a tackle shop in Ocean city also does a weekly report. The fishing pier in Ocean city is being repaired from the winter storms, but you can still fish from the jetty or bay pier. There's a couple of parks in Ocean city you can fish without a license. there are also 2 or 3 free fishing days in Maryland around the 4th of July. Potomac park in Dc is where a lot of people go, but these days the cops are checking your catches more often no mater where you go, 1 out of season crab can cost $100 bucks each. I agree with one poster, watch out for the snakes, great falls is loaded with them, also anywhere there has been construction near by. Lake Braddock is loaded with catch and release bass.

Burke Lake is full of trouser trout. Tight bike shorts will catch them.

You should consider taking a writing class at your local community college.

Your grammar, and syntax are infantile, and you cannot spell.

Hm, I recommend you to check one article which is called - what is the best baitcasting reel for beginners, I guess it will help you to understand all the details of fishing and learn more about various types of reels. What do you think about it? I just think that you shouldn't give up right now, try one more time
