Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
You're fucked man....sorry to say it. Ffx county is crackin' down hard on the pot heads. Shouldn't have been such a dumb ass and got caught. Don't even bother going to college.
The max penalty is 30 days, and you only have to serve 1/2 your sentence, so take two weeks off, serve your sentence. Of course you could also do probation for a year, have to visit w/a PO, give clean urines, and do some community service. Most likely you will also have to do ADS, which will make you do drug treatment 2x per week for about 4 mos.
Anyways, the easiest thing to do is your time. Prior to Ct. go get evaluated at the Sheriff's office for work release, and/or home detention.
It depends upon how much you were caught with. If it was a small amount, this was your first offense, and you have a decent lawyer, you might even be able to obtain a "Delayed Deposition". This allows for you to be on Probation for a set amount of time, at the end of which, if you stay out of trouble, the charges may be dismissed.
BTW, I have no idea how old you are, but you need to leave that garbage be for real. You have a shot at correcting your mistake here, if everything works out, but don't think that you'll be so fortunate next time.
It's called deferred disposition or probation before judgement.

First time, no real record, 6 months loss of license, then you have to go to like a drug program and after 6 months if you stay out of getting arrested, the charge is dropped. happems again, you are on your own. Try getting a job after this and write an answeer when they ask if you have ever been arrested? Nice way to start an adult life for frickin weed.
Get yourself a good lawyer. It'll be worth the money even if you do spend the next two summers working you ass off painting just to pay the bill. If you had a good lawyer he could tell you exactly what you can expect and how it will work.
You are walk into court w/o a lawyer and you can kiss your first semester of college bye-bye and probably get stuck with the conviction on your record. Walk in with a good lawyer and you can probably get the whole thing dismissed after a year of perfect behavior.
Now, just don't get a stupid drunk in public during your first year of college.
not to dis your advice, it is sage in general, but a few personal notes:
- the judge offers the same deferment (probation, with good behavior followed by dismissal) deal to every first offender. If a lawyer got him a year of probation, he's paying to get six months more time.
- a lawyer would more than likely be able to get the entire charge dismissed. Fairfax doesn't try especially hard in these kinds of cases, I would guess because nearly everyone takes the deal.
- assuming he does get a lawyer (I agree he should), it would be maybe 1500-2000 for a good defense, which is a lot of money but not any two years of work to obtain. You are entitled to a lawyer who provides a good defense, and if you use it to get a charge dismissed or to be found not guilty, there is zero shame in that.
I was recently caught with some bowl resedue and some crumbs (no bowl). and Since its my 1st offence I was wondering if its worth getting a lawyer for that. I was stupid and admited it was my weed but the cop said i was coopertive and said it goes a long way. So what are my worst case scenarios ?
Your worst case is going in to Court without talking to an attorney and naively expecting that you will end up with your best case. Criminal record, jail, no possibility of Federal student aid, difficulty in joining the military, employers won't hire you because of your record, oh and drivers license revocation or suspension. This may not be the likely result, but it is a possibility.
There are three reasons you hire an attorney in a criminal case: To get you off; to minimize the damage and to help you understand what you are dealing with. You probably won't get off at this point, but maybe a deferred disposition or a diversion program is possible.
