I Don't For a Minute Believe Metro Story!!!!

The Washington DC Metro has been unsafe for years. There is absolutely no reason they'd ever disrupt a business day just to inspect switches. I just don't believe the story.

There's some credible terrorist threat behind this and the government just doesn't want to alarm people. It's tie to face it folks. The War on Terror is here. We should have real shock and awe and kept it over there, but they gave us bullshit shock and awe, and now it is here.

Everyone should take a meritorious day off tomorrow. And kids should stay home from schools. In fact everybody should stay home until government comes clean on this one. There's something stinky about this.

Things that dont add up

1. it is closed for inspection and not repair? Inspections could be performed at any time of the day.

2. Do you think metro has the man power to inspect all of the lines in 24 hours?

3. If this was a known life threatening problem why was it not addressed at a earlier time?

4. Why not focus on having inbound only in the morning and outbound only in the afternoon for inspection with more repair contractors on scene if a situation was to arise?

My conclusion is that the entire system so fucked all they can do is inspect and prioritized the most critical repairs. there is now way to inspect and fix a entire subway system in 24 hours with the bozos who work their. YOu have to wonder if anyone is behind the scene or just the morons driving the trains and the idiot in the booth at the station. if you work of live by a above ground line 10 bucks says you wont see anyone inspecting switches or the third line tomorrow.

If it's a terrorist threat, why did they wait until midnight to shut down the service? Did the terrorists promise to only set off a bomb or toxic gas after midnight?

Let's think about it for a moment. Metro has a new GM that wants safety to be a top priority and he doesn't want to get caught flat footed or not taking action on a public safety issue. Let's see.. What happened on Monday? Another electrical fire? Similar to the one killed a metro rider (due to smoke inhalation) a bit over a year ago? Hmm.. Maybe the GM saw the latest issue arise, got the results of the investigation, met with board members, and determined waiting to take action would be irresponsible or at worst make them legally and maybe even criminally liable if something happened while they waited.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. They might specifically know of some other issues and decided it's not worth the risk. Or of course it could be all of the stuff you mental midgets came up with too.

agree that this sounds more like a threat reaction....if so, surprised there are enough patriots willing to stop a false flag anymore

Metro has a new sheriff, and he's letting Metro employees, the Metro Board and local politicians know that the days of half assessed to serious problems with Metro are over.

If they have a hundred people, that's 6 cables each in 24 hours, one cable every 4 hours. Sheesh, numerical illiteracy is frightening in this country.

Why didn't they do it last Sunday? In an area where not going to work is akin to child molestation, they do this on a workday? Makes no sense.

Out and about today, traffic no worse than any other day, saw Many a Neon Safety Vest walking tracks from Vienna on in from the west and Saw the Same from the South. I believe this expirement Justifies shutting the whole worthless system down, would save US Billions and Lower Crime Rates!

So he does so by completely shutting down the system mid-week in order to 'send the message?' lol

That doesn't really do a lot for confidence in good decision making going forward.

I agree something is fishy, been thinking about this since yesterday's announcement.

Either a political maneuver or some sort of credible thread that is being smoke screened.

I was thinking the same thing about how many crews are there to check all of these cables? Can it really be done thoroughly in 29 hours? Do they have the parts, man power and time to repair problems. Who is going to call the Triage on what is found?

Why the "F" was this not being done on a weekly basis for the past year?

Why did this not be addressed when Metro was closed for the snowstorm? Yea, I know most of the trains were underground, most of the employees may not have been able to get into work. Yea, yea, yea.

Could this have not waited unit this weekend or is Metro worried about the Spring Breakers and Cherry Blossom nuts?

Buried in the details was that the cable fire on Monday HAD been inspected after last years accident and passed - even though it was not up to spec. And that Metro had even repaired the cable that caused the 2015 fire and death incorrectly. Even when the spotlight is shining on them brightly they cannot get it right.

I suppose you believe that if he said Metro has a serious safety issue and we are going to be disrupting service over the next several weeks while we go section by section inspecting and replacing the problem, the emphasis would have remained on getting the system safe rather than resuming normal service. THAT IS THE TRUE LOL.

No, I'd expect that they'd do it on an ongoing basis as part of their regular maintenance requirements. Not the first time that these same "cables" have been a problem. If necessary due to something unusual coming to light, then in a much more planned and coordinated way than completely shutting down the *entire* system with no advance warning or planning. I doubt that they even have qualified manpower to inspect everything properly in some 24-hour rush job.

What if they find some problems? Are they going to keep it shut down until repaired?

Ridiculous.

" No, I'd expect that they'd do it on an ongoing basis as part of their regular maintenance requirements"

So in other words you are going to ignore the problem entirely and hope nothing goes wrong until you may or may not get around to fixing it.

They actually have no "drivers". Metro is entirely automated. The people upfront in the "Engineers seat" are there to make the public feel secure.

No, I'd have:

(a) Made sure that there was a proper ongoing routine inspection process to begin with, particularly of these cables since they've been blamed for multiple deaths previously.

(b) Do any emergency inspection in a more planned manner over two nights during off-hours.

(c) Based on what may be found, proceed as appropriate from there.

Just as anyone else who had any sort of experience running something where continuous operations are important and many are affected. I definitely would not completely shut down the system with no warning in order to 'send a message' to employees, the Metro Board and local politicians as you suggested was the case.

Venezuela to Shut Down for a Week to Cope With Electricity Crisis

March 16, 2016 — 11:27 AM EDT Updated on March 16, 2016 — 3:24 PM EDT

Venezuela is shutting down for a week as the government struggles with a deepening electricity crisis.

President Nicolas Maduro gave everyone an extra three days off work next week, extending the two-day Easter holiday, according to a statement in the Official Gazette published late Tuesday. Maduro had originally said over the weekend that the extended holiday would only apply to state employees.

The government has rationed electricity and water supplies across the country for months and urged citizens to avoid waste as Venezuela endures a prolonged drought that has slashed output at hydroelectric dams. The ruling socialists have blamed the shortage on the El Nino weather phenomena and “sabotage” by their political foes, while critics cite a lack of maintenance and poor planning.
