Waiting for his car to be fixed turned into a lucrative adventure for John Johns of Arlington.
Johns decided to pass the time by walking to a nearby 7-Eleven on Richmond Highway for a cup of coffee. Once in the store, he also bought a few lottery tickets for a scratch-off game.
Turns out, he won $2.5 million, according to the Virginia Lottery.
“I had to look two or three times to make sure,” Johns told lottery officials after he claimed his winnings on Thursday.
The store in Alexandria also gets a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Johns also told lottery officials it felt good to win, although he noted, “It’s still sinking in.”
He said he had “no immediate plans for his winnings.” He told officials he may take a vacation.
