FCPS MADE TEACHERS PAY $8,000 TO AN ARBITRATOR - ASK CONGRESS TO PASS H.R.2087 – ARBITRATION FAIRNESS ACT OF 2015

Fairfax County Public School is one of the largest school districts in America. On February 18, 2016 a writ of certiorari was filed in the United States Supreme Court asking the high Court to decide whether large arbitration costs are lawful because Fairfax County Public School Board's grievance policy mandated teachers to pay more than $8,000 to an arbitrator in order to grieve the threat of termination.

If this travesty can happen to a teacher, it can happen to anyone. Please contact your congressman or woman and ask him or her to pass H.R.2087 - Arbitration Fairness Act of 2015.

That's $8,000 to an arbitrator or $10k+ in court costs and legal fees. Not sure what the issue is. Arbitration is generally preferred for these things because it ends up being faster and cheaper than court.

Not much sympathy for the Teachers, try being anything else in the fcps
at least teachers get pay raises, the bus drivers got pay freezes for years, don't have a union to get them more money. with the new start times some lost money due to less runs. fairfax county schools only care About teachers, and admin. everyone else lives on the scraps....

Collection law firm, Mann Bracken, collapsed when it came out that Mann Bracken controlled the arbitrator in the credit card agreements.

Local lawyer, Connell Loftus, husband of Fairfax councilwoman Nancy Loftus, was one of the managing partners at Mann Bracken. He spent several years drifting from job to job. Now he's at Coulter Harris in Manassas. Kind of a step down after Mann Bracken.

Teachers have degrees so they should get paid more. That said bus drivers do deserve raises as well. Do what teachers are doing and work in another county. Fairfax thinks continues cuts despite increased enrollment and staff.

Also there are no unions in Virginia.

i was in no way suggesting that bus drivers be paid what teacher are paid,
that would be absurd, was just pointing out that the bus drivers and other
support staff are not valued by this school board. 5 years of no step increases,
being told they would get a 1% pay increase this year and it was approved, then only given a .6 % raise and three work days shaved off on top. Don't know about the other staff, but drivers not getting step increases for five years is between 4 and 5 dollars an hour they will never get back. All while the School Board votes to double their own salaries. Virginia is a right to work state, so union was the wrong word. However teachers have several professional organizations lobbying for them, the AFPE, Fairfax Education Association, and Fairfax County Federation of Teachers. So they have some leverage the other employees do not have, and good for them. Just wish the rest of the employees
were treated better.
