That was before now with many lawsuits, and motto then with this country as a whole on a better moral mindset. Also With the Post Office in the red, doubt that they can afford too many slip and fall health insurance claims in snow, plus can only imagine the dog bite claims the Post Office has to process year round.

Got my first mail this week on Wednesday.

That "neither rain..." line was never the official motto of the USPS. It was something the architect who designed the post office building next to Penn Station in New York slapped on the building.

In our area the PO has used the decline in mail volume to justify cutting back the number of carriers. Problem is that even with less mail to deliver the carrier still has to cover the same amount of ground, so it hasn't worked even with perfect weather.

They only delivered 1 magazine and 1 package today. Yesterday 1 amazon package was at door. I think Amazon truck brought that, but no mail.

Are we supposed to go to the post office and get the mail ourselves?

I understand that they are swamped because of the snow storm. I cannot even imagine how crazy it must be for the post office people.

Guess we wont be gettin no mail for a while.

On Friday I stopped at the PO as I was going by to try to pick up my mail. The clerk said it was out with the carrier so I would be getting it delivered. (cue the guy debating the Burger King king: "ha ha ha...ha ha...ha ha ha ha....ha..ha").

Yes, same experience but I was dropping off some packages to ship for work. About 20 people in line at 2pm on Friday. An older lady in front of me seemed to be holding back on cussing out the post office.

A postal employee came down the line and ask "Does anybody have any questions?"

The lady in front of me said "Yes........., I haven't received any mail all week long! Can you go in the back and get my mail!?!"

The gentleman said "I might...? Do you have an ID, I'll be back with you in a minute." He answered the rest of the questions for people in line and quickly came back.

He came back and wrote down her name off her drivers license and explained- "I'll go in the back and check... but your mail may be out on re-delivery right now. I can't make any promises it's back there. I'll go check now."

I'll give credit to the postal employee he handle the situation of upset people very calmly.

Mail and deliveries from other providers is backed up.

The mail is taking 2x longer to deliver depending on the route, plus it is backed up in the local post office.

If your route has curbside delivery, the mail carrier is probably stopping and getting out at every house to reach the mail box. This easily double the route time.

We have been getting mail ever other day because the carrier cannot do the full route in a day.

Be patient and do go easy on your mail carrier, they are doing the best they can giving the 1 lane streets, sidewalks that are not shoveled, mail boxes that are not accessible.

I have gotten zero (0) mail in the past 8 days! What am I paying them for. All they do is play ping pong all day.

My mailman has me on speed dial.

Even called to find out how our street and surrounding area was cleared.

You must have the Asian carriers?

My guy busts his ass and was even in the Post Office on Monday trying to clear the lot and trucks off.

In parts of the county mail service was approaching the deplorable stage even before the snow storm hit. Carriers have been cut. Some neighborhoods have become almost permanent "substitute and trainee" routes. Some carriers would simply throw mail on the door step rather than putting it in the box or mail slot. People have been complaining about increasing amounts of misdirected mail. On some routes if the carrier didn't complete the route on one day, they would start the route over the next so that people on the end might only get deliveries 2 to 3 times a week.

When service is already bad, you can't expect people to simply "be patient" when it gets worse.

Well my carrier had to quit early the Friday the storm started. So my end of the route was missed.

When he started up the route this past week, the route was started where he left off and then worked his way back to the beginning. This way we were covered at least on the start of things.

So I think our carrier is actually doing the best he can giving the situation.

As he said, he thinks everyone ordered a bunch of stuff online this past week because everyone was stuck at home and the package volume is up as of late this past week and it will probably peak mid week this week.

I came home one day and found my mail in my bird feeder. No.....the bird feeder does not look anything like a mailbox, it doesn't have a flag on it, it's not hanging on my house next to the front door, nor is it on a pole by the street. At least I got mail that day.

Why would there be substitutes and trainees if people were cut? Wouldn’t the cut routes just be given to other carriers. Maybe they cut senior carriers and hired newbies for less.
