Looks like snow will be starting late Friday afternoon. Be prepared for all Fairfax county schools to be closed Friday evening, Saturday and part of Sunday.

It takes about a day to clear the FC roads and streets. Unless it's over two feet.
Roads will just be wet on Monday. Possibly even dry and all cleared.
Over two week on Saturday would probably be a delayed start on Monday.

In the last major snow storm I was without power for 4 days. I can only imagine kids with no electronics in the dark. No XBox or working cellphones.

you forget about the schools also have to have their lots and sidewalks cleared too, This takes a day or two longer than the roads themselves as they employees who do the work can't get in until the roads are clear enough etc.

The FCPS spent plenty of money last year on equipment to clear the schools. Won't be an issue this year. Schools are small parking lots and a couple of sidewalks with a snowblower. A school can be cleared in an hour.

But closures affect sports and other activities on school properties that happen over the weekend. And they need to clear all the parking lots for the students and teachers to park. That is a huge job.

How about the high schools.........They have to get the heavy equipment out for those.

Updated Weather Channel forecast. 1" for DC on Friday, 5" to 8" on Saturday. Forecast likely to change and amounts lessened to 1" to 3" total. A non-event for DC!

Yup models now showing snow starting late Friday night. Heavy snow Saturday morning. Saturday is the big question. How many hours of Saturday snow.
Nice part is it's on weekend so it won't effect much.

FAIRFAX, Va. - They are bracing for another kind of storm in Fairfax County. Parents and students in the county have gained a well-earned reputation as a "tough crowd" when it comes to how Fairfax County Public Schools have closed and have not closed in past snowstorms.
This time, school officials said they are ready for whatever awaits them from the impending storm as well as the storm of opinions on social media.

Stores Restocked Now

I went to Safeway around 10:00 am. All the shelves had been restocked and in some cases overloaded with new stock.
Nobody at in line. When I got done checking out the lines were just starting to form. 3 or 4 people in each line. Normal. It could of just been a group showing up at the same time.

I Doubt they will

Will have school on Friday. You gotta remember that they have to lay down a pretreatment on the roads. I do not see them having school Friday, or Monday. There will be most likely a two hour delay on Tuesday, which could honestly be a cancellation as well. School may resume as early as Tuesday but most likely could be wednesday. Also, remember, Fairfax County is trying to use up their snow days so that they can go down to the Virginia Department of Education and get school to start before Labor Day. I would be surprised if school was to be on tomorrow or Monday. Roads may be wet on Monday and if they do clear them, but you need to remember that some of the schools are tucked back in the middle of communities and are harder to plow. Due to this, and the weather not being that warm to melt the snow, I do not see them having school Friday to Monday or even potentially Tuesday. Stranger things have happened, but I don't see them having school for a bit
