COYOTE on my Street FFX pkway Sydenstricker exit

Live off the parkway near sydenstricker. Earlier tonight my dog was going absolutely nuts...something was outside and she was going from the back door to the front. I went upstairs and peered out and saw what I thought was a dog on our private drive. After I got a better look at it, I realized it was a coyote! I peered out my window thru out the night, and there it was again around 5 am, and it went across my neighbors front porch where the light was on. No doubt, it was a coyote.

Just post "No Coyotes Allowed" signs around the perimeter of your property.
Or you could bill them for a portion of the property tax.

That sounds like that story of a fat fucker with a white beard up on the roof with a sled, and some animals.

You must have roadrunners in your neighborhood too.

They live here. Whether you saw one or not is a different story, but there are no prizes that will be awarded if you did.

Yeah, there's a coyote pack that lives in Fort Belvoir North. They go up and down the Accotink and Pohick stream park land. I've seen a few at night crossing the parkway. There's a thread on here with a guy that studies them.

Bobcats have also shown up in the great falls area. A friend of mine who works for the national parks saw paw prints in the snow a few years ago, got a government guy who really knows his stuff on that subject to confirm it was a bobcat.
I've also seen prints but that was near where rt 7 crosses the blue ridge

In McLean in the early 1980s, I saw a bobcat bounce out of our yard, right off Kirby near Old Dominion. It was dusk. Looked like a big cat but with long legs. Too long to be a house-cat. and when it ran, it bounced. crazy.

If you want to see any your best chance is to go in areas where sightings have been while snow is on the ground and track the prints. Their camo is no good in the snow, just be aware and stay at least half a football field away. Its not hard to track one down in those conditions (provided you find tracks first) it just takes silence, determination and patience. Wear white too and don't smoke.

I need to find the pics I took of the bobcat I tracked on skyline drive a couple years ago. I found the den and had to wait half a day for it to come out

The term "pack" is usually not applicable. "Family" would be more appropriate, as a group of coyotes would typically consist of bonded parents and this year's offspring. Occasionally, offspring from last year as well.

I see a coyote around my ffx neighborhood occasionally. They're bigger than the foxes. Never seen a Bobcat. I know those fuckers are around, but they're supposed to be really elusive.

Your Mama turned you out, eh? Not much of a surprise there. That's why there's the Lambe Centre.

I've seen one in my neighborhood much more recently than that. I was even able to get a good, clear pic:

Not according to this site. A pack includes a family.

Are you Surprised? If your on Sydenstricker there are numerous Foxes and you are bordered by numerous parks and Lakes which provide lots of free food. I have a Lab and am not to worried, I just wish they would get more squirrels and Chipmunks.

My kids were riding their bikes one day and saw a coyote and a fox having a stand off. Later that week I saw one disappearing down a storm drain and there were reports of sightings of a mom coyote and her offspring.

Yes, coyotes are most certainly in Fairfax. Have been for years.

ORIGINAL POSTER HERE...FUNNY COMMENTS ABOVE, BUT I HAVE ZERO DOUBT IT WAS A COYOTE. I WAS surprised to see one, but wasn't surprised that they are here in our area. No, it was not a fox, we have tons of those. I walk my lab thru the park (which is basically my backyard) and we have a few fox that come up to our back porch area all the time. All colors - red, gray, mixed. I just posted the coyote sighting because it was actually exciting to see it. Call them what you want, but I just see it as we haven't killed everything off yet, and these coyotes seem to be doing quite well.

Are you absolutely 100% sure it wasn't a housecoat?

I've seen some beautiful housecoats on sale at Marshalls that have leopard print stylings, one could be easily fooled.

I saw one on Shiplett a few months back, I am surprised on Facebook to see comments about people calling Animal control for them. Hopefully the rodents take a dive, next would be the Geese.

You used to never see coyotes and other wild animals hanging around subdivisions the way they do now. Now their are fox pups playing in front yards, coyotes walking across patios, deer ambling down streets.

When there were more woods, the wild animals stayed hidden. Now they are out and about. I now live in a more densely wooded, less populated area and I actually see less in the way of wildlife than I did when I lived in Fairfax. I don't think that seeing wild animals roaming neighborhood streets is necessarily a good thing..
