Yeah it is pretty diappointing. The police love to run speedtraps at Neuman, so watch out for them if you roll down there.

plus the railroad is private property and you'll get trespassing. And cops are there a lot.

AND if that weren't enough, i know some of the residents there and a few of them somehoe find plesure in calling the police when people go around there.

Yes, definitely a "must-see", but, don't go on Halloween, the Cops will be there.

Also, they have a camera hidden that records all activity at the bridge, and that is how they know to respond.

Don't believe me? Go on a Friday night, park near it and just hang out, they will be there within 15 minutes and question you.

Back in the day the inside of the tunnel was all graffitied up. They covered it all with paint and now it looks less intimidating. I knew a girl in HS who used to throw field properties just past it...All that ever happened was that we got hammered. I have also seen it on top 10 scariest places in america on Travl or discovery. It is pretty tame.

I too remember the field parties in that area - I was wondering if anyone else still remembered them! I can't imagine that they happen in Fairfax County any more since there isn't as much open space. Good times ... I also remember a spot on Braddock Road where everyone used to hang out near the Twinbrook Shopping Center. Now that it's been developed I can't remember exactly where we were.

I, too, used to go to those same field parties on the railroad tracks near Olympus gym in Burke / Twinbrook. Were you there when the FCPD paddywagon and two cruisers showed up, drove onto the tracks and chased us through the woods and people's backyards at 2am? This would've been in the early 1990s. There was probably some 80-100 of us there with 2 kegs and they managed to only get the 4 idiots who parked their cars near the track entrance (rather, than in the adjacent neighborhood). -§

Pretty much...though, I didn't really go out of my way. I had a handful of deliveries on and close to Colchester Rd one day and knew it was down there, so I took a little detour.

Having a delivery van was a nice cover, too...I just pretended like I was looking an address. Not that anyone harassed me....

Trespassing is a misdemeanor, genius. You should be HAPPY to pay a fine... I know two guys who did jail time for separate first-offense trespasses.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, Trespassing on RR property? Wtf kind of law is that?

Also, jail time for Trespass? Where the hell were they trespassing, Federal Government Property?

I feel bad for those million dollar homes on the other side of the bridge. There's one way in and one way out. The bridge height is under 11' That means no moving trucks, No Electric company if a pole falls, and most of all no Fire Trucks when they burn to the ground. So rich, yet so stupid. There are some big fish in that pond though.

I almost feel bad posting this so close to Halloween and potentially spoiling people's fun. But here's the real story of the Bunnyman Legend:

There was a Bunnyman incident. It was nowhere near the Bunnyman bridge though. It happened near the Guinea Road/Twinbrook Road entrance to the Kings Park West subdivision in 1970, when that neighborhood was under construction. An Air Force cadet was parked with his girlfriend in his car there, when a man in a bunny suit threw a hatchet at the car window.

From a Washington Post article recounting the incident:

Air Force Academy Cadet Robert Bennett told police that shortly after midnight last Sunday he and his fiancee were sitting in a car in the 5400 block of Guinea Road when a man "dressed in a white suit with long bunny ears" ran from the nearby bushes and shouted: "You're on private property and I have your tag number."

The "Rabbit" threw a wooden-handled hatchet through the right front car window, the first-year cadet told police. As soon as he threw the hatchet, the "rabbit" skipped off into the night, police said. Bennett and his fiancee were not injured.

Police say they have the hatchet, but no other clues in the case. They say Bennett was visiting an uncle, who lives across the street from the spot where the car was parked. The cadet was in the area to attend last weekend's Air Force-Navy football game.
---

Two weeks later, the Post ran second story about another incident in the same area in which a construction company security guard confronted a man in a bunny suit chopping a porch post of a newly constructed home.

This paper by a Fairfax County librarian has the complete story of the bunnyman legend, along with the real story that spawned the legend. It is a very interesting read:
