Salvation Army and Your Neighbor: Tax Cheats

Has anyone had fun waiting in long lines in Fairfax, Little River Turnpike and even the venerable Manassas VA Salvation Army to take part in the annual take your trash to Salvation Army for up to a $1000 tax deduction?

Its funny to see all the local Caucasian tax cheats that look down on blacks and Hispanics, when I personally visit a facility and see trash littering salvation Army (especially) Manassas location but Fairfax and Little River turnpike is just as bad.

I mean really, what are you doing with that Receipt for garbage turning it into IPADS? Sorry for the glum speak, but I personally witnessed several Caucasians donating trash today.

People complain that low income folks don't pay any taxes, where several Ford pickups and range rovers can be seen donating trash for receipts the last week of the yearfor tax benefits.

Some of this falls on a tax donations goods, but how interesting to see the generous whites and their trash for receipt strategy.

Please don't race bait

Get a job. Buy a house. Itemize your taxes. Take your trash to Salvation Army.

It's not that hard.

Usually most people stay under $500 on a contribution, not $1000. Otherwise it can raise a red flag with the IRS and you have to fill out a special form to give good reasoning.

You must file Form 8283 if the amount of your deduction
for all non cash gifts is more than $500. Basically, if you earn 50K to 75K and decide to declare 5k in contributions your life will be HELL and red flag will most likely be raised with an Audit.
So under $500 in contributions, if you itemize is a reasonable amount.
If you don't itemized you can't get the contribution tax.
Why not, those people pay enough in real estate and personal property taxes to get a small amount of under $500, so the OP has no valid argument.

FREE info for you and don't wait till this week to do it.

OP, you and the rest actually benefit from it by able to purchase some decent clothes, household items, TV's, and baby clothes at decent prices. So the lower income does and should feel good getting items at some 80% off. I had a microwave break and bought one at Goodwill for $20 and it was much better than the new one I had that broke and 6 years later it still works. And those real contribution cheaters who go way over the limit, I hope they get Audited because that is a nightmare.

So it works out for everyone. Also paying real estate and property taxes they are paying for your schools, libraries, and more in FF County.

A $500 free contribution for free HEFTY trash bags at the salvation Army. Please if you are going to donate, dont go into your Trash Bin, thats all Im asking.

The poor dont want trash, and I would argue with the premise that the salvation army has good deals - ie your lotto-microwave story. Recycled trash.

Good on to anyone who donates electronics that work, and furniture not soiled by pets. Also thanks for the tax lesson, so most will go 4-500 based on the cost of some hefty bags and soiled linen. Beautiful.

God Bless

Get real OP you and most peasants probably only claim the standard deduction so donations are irrelevant.

OP is referring to assholes like the Clintons, who infamously claimed deductions for Bill's worn out underwear that they "donated". Fucking scumbags!

Charities like Salvation Army do OK from those donations. What they cannot resell themselves, they bundle up and sell in bulk to others, including some overseas buyers. If you are donating things that you actually hope will be used by the poor in this community, you may need to look past operations like Purple Heart, Amvets and Goodwill.

In theory anyone claiming a donation for $500 or more runs the risk of an audit. The reality is there are ways to get around that limit and claim deductions of $1,000 or more, if you are willing to provide more information. What bites people on noncash donations is the failure to follow the rules for taking these large donations.

For the most part, what actually gets donated is perfectly good kids' clothes that the original kids have outgrown already, the leftover wardrobes of kids who've finally finished school and moved out on their own, dress and casual clothes from older people who've recently gained weight or retired, and household goods from people who are moving elsewhere or staying here but downsizing. The considerate thing of course is to send all items of clothing through the laundry or the dry cleaners before donating them.

There are no ways to "get around" anything. There are limits and the rules for what needs to be documented and how are fixed and firm. If your total is over $500 for instance, you will need to file a Form 8283, and you will need to visit area thrift stores and consignment shops to establish and document an "estimated fair market value" for every item you donate. Get out there and see what used underwear is going for these days. It does have a base value as rag sold to paper manufacturers. You'll need to do your own homework on anything else you plan to give away.

Don't forget, today is the last day to snag a helpful 2015 tax deduction by donating your usable clothing and household items to Goodwill. Their Arlington collection center (Glebe Road at Route-50) will be open until 8:00 this evening. Grab some lawn & leaf bags, and get busy! You may not want all that stuff anymore, but someone does. Give them a hand and give yourself a tax break at the same time.

Also, today is the perfect day to have a baby and get in on a great tax break.

Go ahead and claim a kid, if you're audited, just say it died.

the real cheat:

1-800-cars-for-kids

run from NJ (making it an illegal shell organization). began just after congress forced salvation army to stop accepting car 4 salvage (metal) donations

but there's the thing: cars4kids does the same thing but magically runs wihtout facing the "anti tax donation code" from the previously SHUT DOWN salvation army

tax cheats: NJ

i've also found NJ involved in fx co gov contracts (and vans from nj on fx co gov bldg grounds) as well as NJ involved in Social Security fraud in VA

NJ

The IRS changed the rules for ALL donations of cars, and there were tons of charities that were accepting them at the time. The charities were doing great from this. Taxpayers were doing great as well. The only ones getting screwed were the IRS -- which is why they changed the rules.

According to their web site, Salvation Army still accepts car donations. The donation is limited to what the car sells for, which means it is no longer as attractive as a few years ago.

Bill Clinton did donate his nasty old underwear and claim a deduction for it. It was part of one of his disclosed tax return in the 1990s.

Do you supposed Hillary Rottencrotch Clinton deducted her private e mail server as a business expense?
