Debunking FCPS Propaganda
Posted by: Ministry of Truth ()
Date: October 23, 2015 02:06PM

FCPS' website makes a plea for funds on the basis that approximately 21,000 FCPS students attend class in temporary classrooms.

Odd, they don't discuss the $80,000/month spent on travel, fees for conferences, the cost of meals for retreats, or the $9,000/day spent on consultants with questionable credentials.

Oh yes, then there's the raise the school board voted itself and the $2,000/month housing allowance for Karen Garza.

FCPS will stop at nothing to get more money. Make them spend the money they have responsibly.

How do you do this? Vote against EVERY incumbent on the school board!

The only reason Angela Atwater, Ed.D., has not closed the matter of the trailers is because FCPS thinks there may still be some money in it.

This "shit will stop" when Gatehouse stops its own shit of wasteful spending and disregard for the taxpayers.

Question after question has been asked, yet there's no answer as to how these expenditures actually relate to education. I'm sure Garza and friends are planning their Christmas parties now, the only open issue being the names for the school board place settings.

Hope springs eternal that they won't need one for Ryan McElveen.

There will be a meeting about planning holiday parties December 1st at 11:30 am. It will be a working lunch at Artie's. Use of the FCPS credit card is authorized.

We will vote on some of these options-

Morton's
Fleming's
Ruth's Chris

You may vote by proxy.

So you're saying you won't stop posting the same whiny, annoying, ignorant bullshit?

Thanks for that.

Please show us the imaginary waste and abuse. The things people complain about come straight out of FOIA documents. Are you saying FCPS fabricates those?

The $80,000/month travel is real, as are the other expenditures. The failure of FCPS to explain how they are essential (as per their "policy") is real as well.

Has your tinfoil hat come loose?

Right after you show me the REAL waste & abuse.

$80,000/month in travel may or may not be excessive. The number by itself doesn't mean anything. How about providing some actual evidence of how/why you believe $80,000/month in travel is excessive.

That's my question for you, too.

FCPS policy says that due to budgetary reasons, only essential travel is allowed.

FOIA only brings back certain travel details.

Requests to school board members, individual travelers, and their supervisors (all the way up to Garza) go unanswered.

So I think it is safe to say that they don't want to discuss this. That's not transparent government, and that's something Fairfax says it is committed to.

I for one thank OP for keeping tabs on fcps and their arrogant attitudes toward their wasteful spending and reckless decisions.

Not quite:

"All official travel funded through appropriated sources is subject to the requirements of this regulation.

Official Travel is all travel considered essential to the effective operation of FCPS"

Which brings up another good point: How much of that $80,000/month in travel is funded through appropriation (taxes) and how much is paid for from other sources? You don't know that, either, do you?

It is also safe to say that bellyaching about $80,000/month in travel expenditures when you don't have any specific knowledge on what or how that money was spend makes the bellyacher look pathetic.

I'd say the onus is on FCPS to justify/explain travel when questioned.

Also, comparing the cost of ESL to the cost of travel is foolish. One could argue that ESL is a waste of time, too. I have a good friend from Turkey who came here at age 18, never had one day of ESL, picked up English as he made his way and now speaks it almost perfectly.

ESL, also, is at least intended to benefit students. It is hard to say the same thing about travel to Germany and this Eric Jensen (the $9,000/day English teacher turned neuroscientist).
