Since I am complaining as I also have a solution. Have the Paddy wagon drive and arrest these beggers. Drive them to the jail where they can mop the floors for $4.25 an hour and sentence them to pickup trash for $4\hr.

Drugs are bad, ok?
They have probably blown through all the help any family or friends can give them. If one is out on the street begging, its either a mental issue or a drug issue. (i'd say 25/75 respectively).
Jail does make for a decent detox if locked up long enough as all the rehabs are having their funding cut/locations closing/lack of people who want to work with druggies increases.
Expect to see more of this as the economy worsens. People get stressed out due to lack of work, choose to do drugs to dull the pain, and this is what happens if left unchecked.
Alcohol- same thing, a lot of alchies out here too on the streets knowing if they check into a shelter they will be unable to do their drug of choice and be facing rehab- so they'd rather panhandle for their next $5 to get another drink/hit.

I was told the cops wont do anything about it anymore because they were told the FD is allowed to do the same thing. Really the firefighters are even worse because they stand in traffic. Most of the beggers at least stand on the curbs.

I'm not going to put up with it either here in Fairfax County.
I remember the Moonies selling their roses at strategic places around FX. Their presence was irritating, but I never bought a rose, because they were not pushy.
Then, there were the classic Bums, usually closer to Falls Church or on the Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1).
But, over the last 10 years, I see people, some Black, and more and more White, approaching me at shopping centers with their "stories". I've given $5 here and there, but it's stopping now.
These people are beggars, but Democrats love them as long as they vote Democrat.

Have you ever tried begging at a green light, just doesn't work.
For rizzle doh, I have seen the same fat bums at FFX stoplights everyday during rush hour. It is hard for me to feel bad for a fat bum. But I have seen some bums at interstate exits that look a little more needy. If I have an extra granola bar or something I might toss it there way. Once I did that while stopping for gas and when I got back on the interstate he was about 1/2mi down the road. Must had made his day enough to get moving.

Well, the way I figured...they're begging, they must be in need. So, I went and bought this dude two bags of groceries (better than giving money to a drug addict, right?). He took them, didn't smile or say 'thanks' and walked away. Yet another "beggars are choosers" experience: I tried to buy this dude begging at an intersection some Taco Bell and a giant thing of water (hot day). He said "No, I don't drink unfiltered". Oh. Ok.
