Widen driveway apron

First, I am not in construction business so I don't know what is the right term but I need to widen my driveway apron/access/approach you know the curb section about 3 feet on each side. I had my driveway expanded 3 feet on each side 10 years ago but never bother to fix the curb section and it is a bit annoying to back in and out.

I was told that I must contact the state and must have a permit. I also got told that I can go a head and do it on my own and don't need to tell any one. If you have yours done would you mind share what the procedure is?

Getting a permit from vdot should be easy if your driveway apron is not already the maximum width allowed. You can look online for vdot road and bridge standards and check out volume 1 for curb and gutter. There you will find the details for your driveway and the allowable width. You will need to post a bond for the work. Or, you can find a contractor to obtain the permit who is also bonded with vdot. It's going to cost you.

Fuck libs!

So you had the extra concrete poured assuming without a permit. Once you go to state to get permit for widen access they will also look at the previous work done. Over 5000SQ-FT impermeable means you will have to BMP the stormwater. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in your ass all day. Think rain garden or some shit like that. Enjoy marylanders need their blue crabs.

If every idiot conservatard asshat widened his driveway to the length of his yard, there would be no fire lanes, no street parking - THANK YOU OBAMA for big government who can keep keep these dangerous rogue property owners in check.

Building permits and other enforced laws are the only fucking thing that separates us from the third world shithole countries.

Stormwater rules have been on the books since the 80's asshole. Just recently though, Virginia has started to enforce it. Yes; because of these measures, mostly spearheaded by Maryland BTW, the bay has gotten cleaner.

Typical uneducated libturd response. The liberal EPA regulations released for 2014 are so restrictive it isn't cost effective to develop in most parts of the state. Only big money, state and federal government development is going on in areas that were not grandfathered. So, if the laws from the 80's were working, why make them more restrictive? Do you libturdz want us to go back to caveman days? How much further do you want to set this country back? You've already destroyed race relations back to the slave trading days of your democrat mentors. What's next? Putting diapers on the bears so they don't shit in the streams?

Libs gonna lib.

You do not need to worry about going back to caveman days. You are doing a perfectly good impression right now.

And before you talk about race relations, understand that not everyone thought that the 1950s and 1960s were nirvana. (At least you can blame much of that on southern Democrats, but they quickly fled the party after passage of the Civil Rights Act.)

2014 laws are just enforcing the clean water act from the 80's. Maryland has had BMP practices in place since you don't see them crying the blues.

On another note, suck my dick you tea bagging faggot.

That wouldn't make sense. Republicans passed the civil rights act. libs murdered JFK and MLK. You can't change history. Democrats are and always have been racist fucks.

It's time we put that EIB myth to bed. It was nonsouthern Congressmen of both parties who passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If you look at the voting by parties and by region you will find a few southern Democrats who actually voted in favor of the Act, but IIRC all the southern Republicans including Virginia Republicans Joel Broyhill and Richard Poff voted against it. In both houses more Democrats voted in favor of the act than the total number of those, Democratic and Republican, who voted against it. When it came to the final vote, Republican supporters could have stayed home and the Act still would have passed.

Where the Republicans made a difference was in coming up with the necessary votes in the Senate to end the filibuster. 67 votes were required to invoke cloture and ultimately 71 votes were cast in favor of cloture. In both parties a strong majority voted in favor of cloture.

the procedure and code is almost the same, minus bloviating,

as the first 50 or 100 years of Roman Law

google it

you need fill under the concrete, and any drainage necessary

you'll be way better off if you don't "go cheap":

1) rent a concrete mixer

2) buy rebar , tie it with wire in a cage

also the edges need (blocks) to prevent them from damage

---------------------
leveling to get it "smooth" is easier than you think

just wobble a long 2x4 across it, it'll look just like the above after 1 min. of passing over it

Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds like this guy wants to rip out 3-6 feet of curb so he won't be inconvenienced backing out of his expanded driveway - which I'm sure the neighbors were thrilled with. How could this NOT require a permit? I have to wonder if the original work was permitted. Doesn't this sound just a little but selfish?

VDOT controls driveway aprons and road cuts.
Driveway aprons belong to the state, not to the home owner.
It is true that when you request to expand your apron they will look at your expanded driveway.
If you didn't pull permits for the driveway they could make you tear it all up.
You're only allowed to have so much area covered in concrete.
If you did pull permits and your expanded driveway is on the up and up, they will make it very expensive to expand the apron, VERY EXPENSIVE!
Is it really worth it??
