How Many Tele-Marketing or Scam Calls Do You Get A Day?
Posted by: Normal Number? ()
Date: August 12, 2015 11:22AM

I get about 4-5 scam or tele-marketing calls every day. I am on nomorobo so that stops about 3/4 of the calls but some still make it through and ring.

I am wondering how many calls other Fairfax county residents get a day?

Is 5 telemarketing calls normal?

Very unusual I get any, but we do not have home phone service, only cells.

Since joining nomorobo about 6 months ago we get about the same number of calls (2-3 per day), but 99% are trapped...the phone rings once and that is it. The downside is that it traps some calls that should be on a whitelist, but I can live with that.

More annoying than the phone calls are the door to door solicitors. Seems like my neighbors are getting a lot of windows and gutters replaced according to the guys who knock on my door a couple times a week.

And stop sending the cable/satellite/security companies to my door randomly! If I wanted your services, I would call you and order them!! Don't even get me started on my grievances about my cell phone and email inbox. I don't sign up for much of anything and I still get spam showered frequently!!

Unlisted number, not available through directory assistance, on the
Do Not Call List but that doesn't stop them. We get 2-3 per day on
the landline. Very rarely on the cells. I always answer the phone,
"Fairfax County Jail!!!" and they usually hang up. If they ask for
my wife by name I tell them she's in solitary confinement and they
should call back on Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m. They never call back.

3-4 a day on my landline. But I never answer it and keep the ring volume low so I don't even notice. Real humans can leave a message which gets automatically sent to me as an email. Amazing how few of those I get, meaning the calls are like 98% garbage.

I get at least 4-6 junk phone calls each day. Drives me nuts. I've gotten about 100 of the same call 'about my credit card' where 'this is your last notice'. From a different location each time. Can't believe anyone is stupid enough to fall for this crap. I just let all calls roll over to the answering machine any more.

I think the record for me is 7 calls in a day, but it happens just a single day. Generally, I receive these kind of calls 3-4 times per day. That is quite annoying. However, I found on some reports at http://callercenter.com, that a single person got until 10 calls in a day! What a f**kin' telemarketers.

Google "tom mabe telemarketer crime scene"

That man is a national treasure.

I've used it myself. It gets a reaction, it also gets you off of that particular list once and for all.

A couple of days ago I received a call from a guy with a very thick Indian
accent named "Kevin" who was claiming to be my grandson. I don't have a
grandson. Nothing but comma's showed up on the LCD. When I demanded he give
me a number where I could reach him, he hung up.

Well, I probably brought this on myself, but ever since I took the time to answer a phone survey, I seem to be getting a signficant number of phone survey calls, which I am not answering when they call. I am not sure if answering these phone surveys is a good thing or not? The one that I answered took quite awhile, but it was interesting as the questions were related to my grocery store preferences.

I know very little about phone surveys and whether it is a coincidence or not that I am now getting quite a few calls that the caller ID labels as survey or opinion polls. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would be interested in your opinion (not trying to do a survey here LOL). :)

If you are sick of solicitors, do what I do. Put this on your storm door. I guarantee it will work 100%. Plus I put a rubber snake near my front door.
You will see them walk away within 15 seconds. Thank me later.

It's not an Indian, Italian, or Middle Eastern accent, it's a "gypsy" accent. Their whole life and survival is based on running scams, that's all they have.

Phone calls:

Them: Hi, this is Linda from Crap Cable.

You: Linda, hey, I didn't know you'd changed jobs.

Them: What?

You: Yes, you used to work for the pharmacy, then, when you lost your license, you had to find something else. How is this working out?

Them: This is Linda from Crap Cable, I don't think I know you.

You: Of course you know me. I used to see you at least once a month to get my prescriptions filled.

Them: I don't think so.

You: Well, maybe you forgot, you were self medicating…

Them: I was NOT self-medicating. I work for Crap Cable.

You: Look, it is OK. Just get some help, all right?

Them: Ah…

You: I need to go, but I'll put in a call to the hotline.

(click)

Door to door method:

Someone knocks at the door, you open, there's someone there selling magazines, siding, driveway repair, who knows what.

You: Ah, I've been waiting for you!

Them: What?

You: Things have been tough. You've come to repay the $10,000 you borrowed, right?

Them: No, I'm here to tell you about the Mormons.

You: We can deal with that later. I need my $10,000.

Them: I don't know what you're talking about.

You: Well, you won't hustle me again. Pay or leave. Hell, maybe I should call the police.

(off they go)

Some door to door people put a subtle mark by your house indicating that you are a nut, time waster, whatever. It is an old hobo code.

The telesales people pay for a database, it has time wasters, etc. You WANT to be on these lists.

I've noticed this, too. For some reason, my husband insists on responding to their questions. Inevitably, the next week or so we get more calls. Like you, I assume we've been identified as easy marks.

Polling companies sell their contact lists to other polling companies.
If you've responded, you get a checkmark.

Never play games with these people as it's a waste of time. They know they have a live number if you answer and if you have an answering machine they know also.
Just don't pickup anymore....no sense to it.

Cuss them out and then know your name and number but you have no idea who they are.
That isn't too smart!

claim they are from Microsoft security, and I have to let them into my computer per their instructions.

I feign great relief that they have finally called, and then I pretend to play along. After say 30 minutes, (by which point, I assure you, they are getting quite exasperated), I tell them that my toaster STILL isn't working. (Jeesus Keerist, I thought you idiots were calling me about that shitty toaster I bought! I don't even OWN a Windows computer! Maybe if you spoke English, we wouldn't have had all this confusion!)

Then, they inevitably hang up, without saying a word. Rude bastards....

I got the same Microsoft security call. I played around with him for a while, then asked him if he was the same guy who said he was from the IRS and that I owed them money. He got pissed and started a tirade of bad language. MF this and MF that and you are a MF and etc. I told him to have a nice day, then he hung up.

Oh wow! You actually got the guy cursing at you? That's awesome! Guess I need more practice (which I'm sure I'll get, sooner or later.)

+1 Same Microsoft deal. I played his game for about 10 minutes telling him I was typing what he told me on my keyboard. I had a beer. Finally I lost it laughing and they guy realized I was fucking with him. He started yelling "You little kid I will fuck your mother etc...." and then he hung up."

That is exactly what happened to me. First I told him the computer was not on, had to boot up. Told him it was an old computer so it took some time. That took about 5 minutes. Then he told me to press the windows key and type R as in Roger. I said, you want me to type Roger? No, no, R as in Roger, R as in Robert. Which do you want me to type, Roger or Robert? No, just type R as in Roger. Ok, tell me how do you spell ARSIN? No, just type the letter R as in Robert. Now you have me all confused. Let's start again. And so on. It was fun, then I got tired of it and asked him if he was the IRS guy, and that is when the MF stuff started. I am kind of looking forward to the next call.

When a girl calls, I ask her if she ever fingers herself while on the phone. Or I'll ask "if you and I went on a first date, what are the chances I'd get to fuck your ass before midnight?"

Exactly like what I do it. It's great entertainment. The worse the middle eastern accent the better it works. I had a guy going for about 2 minutes on exactly how many w's I was suppose to type. "Is it four w's in a row or two you want to me type?" I thought you said w w w w? That's four? Yes..., then you said another w after that one and that's four again? So put the dot after the first w? Usually it goes after the third one? Then where should I put the fourth w?"

Next time you get one of those annoying telemarketing, political, or charity calls at home or wherever, try this. Pick up the phone, and respond in this way:

"You have reached (your name) Enterprises. Press 1 for English, sorry other languages are not supported. All facilities (or agents) are busy assisting other telemarketers. Please be patient and stay on the line. (very brief pause) Due to high call volume, please leave a voicemail with your name, phone number, and a brief message, and your call will be returned as soon as human possibly." (voicemail beep you speak, then hang on for say 30 seconds for a message from them that will not get recorded, and then hang up).

Thought of this not long ago, have not tried it yet, but it would be interesting to see how long some telemarketers will stay on the line if you try it, or if they repeatedly try calling you again.
