Hi, new to Fairfax, looking for lowkey places to swim in the area such as rivers and waterfalls. Thanks!

Great Falls is awesome after a lot of storms. Be sure to start above the falls for the fun ride down.

Ok I knew someone would suggest "Great Falls On The Potomac"

OP if you go there you may be "A Bobbin" days later. Some where on the Potomac.

No much in the way of nature swimming holes round here. Timber Lake is long gone.

You could try the "Redneck Rivera" as Its called in NOVA but its 90 miles down the Potomac

Or the 301 bridge area in Va. there's a nice little park with picnic tables BBQs "Wayside Park" , and you can wade out almost 1/4 mile and fish. Its a wide shallow are then it goes deep on the Maryland side. the river is two miles wide there abouts. And 4 at The Redneck Rivera.

Down Rt 3 a bit more is Westmoreland state park a nice place for Pic Nic a big outdoor pool fish pier sandy beach area where you can sit and drag your chairs into the woods. rent cheap kayaks, and they have cabins to rent for camping.

Or head to the "Free State" of Maryland . If you have a CCW , leave the heat at home. Maryland will burn you if they find it.

I assumed the op knew I was being sarcastic but with the simple minds, retards, child molesters, unemployed monkeys that flood the threads you never know. Like the previous poster, there isn't anything good around here except the areas pp mentioned. You could go further out to the Shenandoah, lake Anna, deep creek and a few others if you are willing to drive.

People go swimming in Manassas of RT28 in Bull Run. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Manassas,+VA/@38.8048739,-77.4496502,1054m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x89b65b80d465d68b:0x83529b5eb6fbe752

Most of the Potomac is off limits. You can swim in the lakes in Reston only if you are a resident of the lakes.

You can swim in the Potomac but only from a boat.

Might as well swim in a septic tank. The lakes and streams here are mostly sewage runoff.

I've been seeing a fair number of people swimming in the Occoquan river at Hemlock lately.

I see the UOSA polishing pond there- I know it would be dumb to swim in it- but I wonder if you can fish from it (next to old centerville road- scroll left, next to the service authority there....

Try Cove Point in Calvert County. Washington Post has written some good stuff about it lately.
