Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
No signage. No advertisements on the windows. The store is dark. The parking lot is empty. The location is no longer listed on the Pizza Hut website. The phone number forwards to the Prosperity Avenue location, which advised that the Twinbrook store has closed. Maybe, you're right, Stupididiot, it is still open.
I wouldn't be surprised if McDonald's does move over to the former Pizza Hut location, Pan Pizza. That would increase their visibility and allow them to install a drive-thru.
It's not really remarkable that a Pizza Hut has closed. It is distressing, however, that a community shopping center store has closed after four decades. Twinbrook Shopping Center
That's too bad, I have lived here long enough to remember going there to play tabletop Centipede, Missile Command, and Ms Pac Man after soccer and baseball games.

I worked there in HS when they had those games. I learned the Pac Man pattern there. Used to come in an hour early and play on one quarter. Then the bastards put in an Asteroids game. We used to occasionally trade pizza for ice cream with the Baskin Robbins in the shopping center. Our manager was cool about it but the B&R people had to be careful because their owner would get pissed.
I haven't been in the McDonalds in along time but I remember that it was a limited menu store so a move to the Hut would make sense.
Have not been in there in ...over 30 years. Do hope they don't close the one on 236 at Prosperity , If they do they must rename "Prosperity" to the "Closed Due To The Obama Economy Lane"
But It would be only one in a long list of closings...Thanks Democrats..

Man...that's a shame. Lots of fond memories of team parties there back in the 80's. Well, they did it to themselves. American business now is all about developing a great brand like Pizza Hut with good quality food and nice prices...and then slowly, creepingly drive down quality in an attempt to maintain prices and hope that no one notices you've eroded the brand.
I'm old enough to remember when they farmed the wheat for the flour, mixed the dough by hand and rolled out each crust...all right there on the property.
Hopefully, they will put in a mattress store or an upline burger joint...
I just went to the Pizza Hut on Prosperity & 236 (which might be the only full service Pizza Hut left in fairfax)
I was planning on asking them if they knew what the story was with twinbrooke. Suprisingly, I got a pretty detailed answer. Apparentley McDonald's outbid them for the lease on that space, and they had been trying to do it for 15 months. When you think about it this does make good business sense. The kings park mcdonalds drive thru is packed during the morning rush, while twinbrookes mcdonalds hardly does any business.
Plus, these freestanding dine in pizza huts are really a dying breed. I know of several that have closed:
Twinbrooke
Fairfax station/golds gym (now la toleteca)
Rolling Valley Mall (now coal fire pizza)
Greenbriar town center (I think its a bank now)
Old Pickett road (across from home depot, now a japanese restaurant)
Kamp Washington (now cox cable store)
Edsall Road (developed for residential use)
Beauregard street (behind landmark plaza, I think its a Mexican restaurant)
Potomac mills peremeter road (now 7-eleven)
Gallows & 29 (closed for road widening)
I'm sure there's some that I missed, but you get the idea.

That Japanese restaurant on Old Pickett seems like it has been closed for years. Never seen any cars there.
There used to be a Pizza Hut in Springfield where the KFC is now near Paper Moon. Pretty sure they tore it down when they built the KFC. We used to ride our bikes up to Pizza Hut, stuff our faces, and then walk over to Veneman Music and rub our greasy fingers all over their brand new guitars just to piss off that one dude with the pony tail. Sigh.....
Use to work there,
the fact of the matter is that the location there was on a steady decline
a) The former district manager, who was later terminated for pocketing profits, was replaced with a Texan who knew fuck all about this area - good guy but couldn't keep shit together like the previous manager.
b) This location was never maintained properly; I would never eat there because ADF which owns Pizza Hut in this area would refuse to pay for renovations and cleaning. We cleaned the damn place as best we could but diluted cleaning sprays can only take out so much grease. Didn't help that the vents were fucking shit either.
c) Sales were on the decline; I remember we use to get 200 tickets on a Friday but the last time I asked about tickets they said they were shooting around 130 which is almost $1.5k decrease in sales - God forbid I compare the weekdays
d) Nobody loves working for ADF: Back in the day Pizza Hut was a great place to work because there would be raffles and prizes for various positions, not to mention company policy allowed for free food (to an extent). Once ADF came around they became anal about everything and morale fell off a cliff.
On a side note:
I masturbated frequently inside Pizza Hut because I was one of the closing crew and I knew how to keep the back-door unlocked. If you ever saw someone jacking off in a booth at that Pizza Hut around 1am, that was probably me. Also jerking off in the dough warmers, giant fridge sized contraptions which you put in a standing cart of dough to warm, felt awesome.
A phone call to the number listed fof the Twinbrook location was answered by the Prosperity lopcation. Seems like McDonalds wanted the building and bought it. Nearest dine in location is Prosperity Avenue. Too Bad. I figured something was bad about the location since it never seemed busy.
I work in the shopping center. We heard rumor that it's going to be a doctor's office, but it is just a rumor at this point. The McDonald's closed today (9/1/15), so I wouldn't doubt that they might take over that spot. Wish we knew for sure! Also, the Family Dollar also closed last month

Wow. That's a fair amount of long term stores to move out of there in such a short amount of time..

I wouldn't be surprised if leases not being renewed due to a larger place going into the location. Knowing NOVA, probably going to be the New Twinbrook Town Center!
