illegal activities by gas and auto service station by owner

I work for a gas station. I saw my boss did some illegal stuff and I am afraid of speaking out.

He dumped out mobil 1 into a different and fill it with conventional oil that he bought in bulk into that empty mobil 1 oil container. Then he will mix that changed oil with some unopened mobil 1 oil and put in the case (6 in a case). All employees saw and afraid to speak up fearing of loosing their job. Customer requested mobil 1 oil changed, so you know, it's already mixed.

He also dumped antifreeze in the back of the building.

Sometimes, parts are not replaced as described, such as brake pads. Employees would lie and said brake pads are worn out, need a new set. Actually, employee took out the old pads on the car, air spray it, then painted black, then put them back on. The new pads sent back to the store, or the new pads were never ordered.

My question is, i want to wear hidden camera because I work there to document these. Is it illegal for me to do that? This stresses me out because it's NOT right. I want to sue him for this.

i mean he dumped out the mobil 1 oil into a different container and pour in conventional oil. Then once we got some empty mobil 1 oil after an oil change, he would take it home and use those empty containers to put in conventional oil, clean the bottle, put in the case, sealed it, and pretend it is as new to fool customers.

Is this a franchise type of business? If so reporting him to the company could result in his franchise being pulled. Getting the recordings may help, but there could be an issue of invasion of privacy.

i just read up that it's against the law to use hidden camera. Howelse I can document this. Call on news station and have them doing undercover, then analyze the oil?

It's part of a a chain such as sunoco, citgo, exxon...

Don't do anything unless you get some money out of it.

Maybe try "Fox 5 investigates" or "7 on your side" or one of those consumer news programs? Report it to them!

Buy a quart or two of that crap oil as evidence. Buy it on a credit card to establish a paper trail, and so you don't get labeled a thief.

Good idea to call Channel 7 or 4 or 5. Get help from them and follow their directions.

Good Luck

You can't sue because you have no damages.

However, if you can work out who the people are who are getting painted brake pads, drop them an anonymous note. Let them sue and raise hell with this guy.

Does the place do state inspections? If so, call the Virginia state police. They supervise inspection stations, and might take a broader interest in how the place is run. If you want to be anonymous, make the call from a pay phone in a mall, not from your work or home.

I would look for a new job now. It can't be good for you to work in a place where you are surrounded by crooks, and if they get caught you don't want to be sucked in.

If they do emissions, report them to the Department of Environmental Quality, a state agency.

If they are dumping illegally, report them to Code Enforcement, a County agency.

First and foremost the gas station owner is an idiot, anyone doing this type of crap in this day in age with Yelp and other online service reviews must have an IQ of 60. Eventually the word will get out that this guy is a crook and he'll have no business.

The best approach is to find another job, you don't want to work for a guy like this. He cheats his customers he will also cheat you. And worse yet eventually you'll have to cheat customers which sells your soul. The best approach is to call anonymously to ExxonMobil here's the customer care number:

http://corporate.exxonmobil.com/en/company/contact-us/directory/service-station-customerrelated

I assumed it's an Exxon gas station since you mentioned Mobil 1 oil container and Mobil 1 is usually only available at Exxon (ExxonMobil) gas stations.

Good luck... Remember a coward dies a thousand deaths a hero dies but once, good for you for reckonizing a crook who is his cheating customers, and that he needs to be reported, After-all what happens if it continues his bad deeds and somebody gets in a bad auto wreck because brakes pads weren't replaced only painted over.

It's citgo. He bought mobil 1 from either costco or a mobil 1 authorized distribution center.

I think I will call Exxon directly, they probably will have someone undercover to do mobil1 oil change there, then will have the vehicle's engine oil analyzed by engineers and they probably know what to do from there
