Can anyone recommend any good Jeep mechanics/shops in the area besides the dealers. Need to have a Jeep I'm considering buying looked at. Thanks.

I would go to any of the Curry's for sure. They'll do a full diagnostic for you, just call ahead for an appointment. I'm partial to the Chantilly one, but they seem to run a very professional shop. I'm sure there are folks out there who've had a bad experience there, but overall, I've been pleased with this shop. Not the cheapest, but, you get what you pay for too.

Keep in mind, as a former Jeep owner, they are good for about 100K miles. Seems to be an average benchmark IMO in terms of when things go bad and need quite a bit more than just the usual maintenance or repairs.

In Chantilly...

I had my them install an Atlas II 4.3 transfer case and change my gears. They do good work no matter the ease or difficulity.

Well that depends on the engine - I'd say that's true for any of the the Grand Cherokees - but the Wrangler 6 cyl engines are great and you can get well above 100k - if they are maintained - I would see about a carfax report on the vehicle and if there isn't any history at all I would be worried

I an also throw my recommendation down for these guys. Not the cheapest place in the world, but they know what they are doing.

Funny you mention the engine. It was my engine that never had any problems! I had, I believe, the same Inline-6 as the wrangler in my '99 G.C. It was my bearings, shocks, sensors, radiator, heating core, rear diff case, rotors (more than usual). That being said, it was a great truck and I miss it, just not all the maintenance.

off-roading?? - if you don't have the right pkg - it can't take pain - can't just mud it up and expect it to last w/o maintenance
