Are you a native of Virginia?
Posted by: Tricki L ()
Date: July 20, 2006 08:05AM

I am just curious, how many of you are natives of this state? I came here at age 26 from Ohio. I grew up in northern Ohio right on Lake Erie. I have lived in Va. longer than I lived in Ohio now so I consider this state my home. I DO miss Ohio but Virginia has more to offer.

Born and raised Virginian, and God willing, I'll die that way. If you haven't already figured it out, the three unofficial liberties of Virginians are:

1) The right to own a pick-up

2) The right to love moonshine

3) The right to own a fucking arsenal of firearms

True, but consider that Northern Virginia is *not* representative of the rest of the state...

ah yes, how could I forget.
That 25-30 mile circle around DC that has overpaid gov. employees living there.

Overpaid? Fresh out of school GS-13 lawyers only make ~$54k; big firm ones make triple that.

Considering that most gov. employees rely on the work of underpaid contractors. Yes- they are overpaid.

And you got to be making a little above $54K to be able to live in this area these days.

I agree about the $54k not covering living costs but disagree about the contractors. I was an engineer at a defense contractor and made much more than I would have as a GS given my education and experience.

Nope, originally from the Pocono mountains of PA. Moved to the DC area straight outta college, lived in PG county and Adams-Morgan for a few years before I decided to cross the river and live in NoVA. I like it here.

What the fuck?! Well, that could explain why a truck full of 'em were stopped in Ohio and said they were heading to Manassas, VA to find a job...

Look people, we drove 'em out of Herndon and now it's time to drive 'em out of Manassas! If we keep pushing 'em farther away, soon enough they'll be back across the border!

I like how I refer to illegal mexicans as 'em in this post...

The Washington Times even did a story about that.

Born and raised

My college days
I was doin too much shit
so I failed outta school
So I went back to my parents
and they called me a fool

So then I moved out
Did not look back in the mirror
Life was great,
didn't feel any fear
And that's how I became the prince of "greater clifton" here

GS-13 starts out at $77,353 in DC area. And I would say the USG hires the same ratio of slackers as the private sector - it's just that they can't fire them...

BTW: Me, lived in Annandale from like three to five years old, came back a year ago - won't be stayin' long. Gotta keep searchin' for something left of beauty and grace in this world...

Man that's a harsh comment.

I do love the city of Pittsburgh; wouldn't want to live there but it's always a fun visit. But unless you're in a place like Sewickley, the suburbs up there are shitty. Alot of it is really old and crummy lookin, culturally homogenous small towns crawling with miserable 60/70-somethings and neanderthal yinzers. It's like Scranton to the power of ten. The only advantage the Pgh suburbs have over NoVA is that it is cheap to live there. It's the kind of place where you can trim trees or stand in front of a deep fryer for a living and still afford to own a camaro and rent your own place.

Well with those yinzer accents and strange yinzer words the locals got up there, it's almost like a some sort of provincial dialect of english.

My nephew used to live in Pittsburgh on Mount Washington. I went to visit him twice and I love that city. The people are very nice and I found lots of good, inexpensive places to eat and to shop. I would move there in a heartbeat if it wasn't so cold and snowy.
