How many days until you leave this God forsaken area?
Posted by: Petey Greene ()
Date: May 24, 2015 06:55PM

I left in in 2006. Never looked back. Took my pension and got out of Dodge, and headed for greener pastures.

How much longer do you retards have to put up with the BS that is referred to as the D.C. area before you get to skidaddle?

I came here from Montana to make grade at USDA Forest Service HQ. I retire in 3 months and head back to Hamilton, Montana. I count the days.

I'm surmising that a lot of people live in this area because they have to. Not because they want to.

Truth is that I look back every day. That's why I'm here on FFxU. I miss being near a real city and wish I could afford to move back to civilization.

Grew up in the area, have family in the area, wife was born as FFX Hospital.

Have moved to California, Michigan, Montgomery County and Europe over the years at different points.

Back in the area, not a problem with it. Rush Hour Traffic, Tysons Redevelopment, Silver Line, Toll Lanes from Trans Urban and the past 2 Winters are wearing a bit thin, but not going to chase me out of here yet.

For people that are not from here, this can be a tough area for many reasons. Growing up here, not such a problem, but things have changed a lot and I do miss a lot of the old school things. We were just talking about things like JR Stockyards and Clydes which were/are old school original placed around Tysons.

Tysons Clydes days are numbered. Now we have a YuppiMart near Tyco and a Tesla Dealer!

I can still walk out of my front door, cut though a neighbors yards and walk to the Potomac, so I think I am in a pretty good location.

We will see if and why I choose to punch out.

I left the area twice before and seem to always get sucked back in. I am waiting for a start date for a new job in NOVA. For me it is definitely a love/hate relationship with the area. Even though I know what I'm in for by moving back, Fairfax is heaven compared to Western PA. I don't know if that says more about Western PA or Fairfax. I remember a line from Oedipus the King: "If you are who you say you are, than you are truly born to suffer" . . . that seems about right.

I left murlund back in 92 and I ain't comin' back. Want to know why?

I got a speeding ticket in Mont. Cty. so I decide to contest it. I was due in court in Rockville at 9am. I left my Anne Arundel home at 7 am. Two hours, That should be good right? Well fuck me, it rained that morning and I didn't make it. I showed up, just a half hour late. The piece of shit traffic court judge had issued a bench warrant.

I can't remember the details but I they arrested me on the spot and I spent the rest of the day with murderers and armed robbers. Ended up before a Superior Court Judge and he said what the hell is this guy doing in here? Release him on his own recognizance.

So fuck you Murlund. I never did pay that ticket or the FTA fine. Come after me bitches.

You are looking back by posting this. You left almost 10 years ago? And this place is still on your mind? That's damned strange.

I think you are trying to convince yourself of something...

Wrong.

Don't you ever look back to when you were a kid and threw that winning touchdown pass or hit that grand slam home run over the left field fence?

Well, my getting the fuck out of the area has basically the same sort of feeling. Very similar to the first time you make love to a woman.

The NoVA area is the best, and they speak great English here. Why would you ever want to move?

This was a nice place to grow up, please don't let the door hit you in the ass, if you and the other greedy money grubbers would leave, we might see some improvement again. Enjoy spending your money back in Hooterville.

I have a house on a mountain and one at the beach. I get enough leave at work so I can go to either when I want and stay long enough to be ok coming back. And then make more money. I could never go cold turkey from work for good. The retirees at the beach don't seem to have much to do and it's like they're just waiting to die.

Coming back here after being away is so, so tough . . . I spend the first days saying, "yep, I live here" to myself. Then I get used to it until the next vacation and say the same thing when I come back. Rinse and repeat. I just try not to fixate on the traffic and overall congestion too much. I stay away from malls, etc. as much as possible. I enjoy my house and tucked away neighborhood (take walks a lot). I try to shop at off times to avoid the masses. I guess I'm in denial.

We're all here for our jobs.

I look back at the good things that have happened in my life. I forget, or try to forget, the bad things that have happened in my life.

You should try that as well.

Is English your second language?

Leaving the D.C. area WAS one of the best things that have happened in my life.

I retired last year and I'll be here another year or two. Just do vacation stuff during the week (beach/fish/hike) and stay low on weekends. You avoid mingling with the maggotry.

I retired and left the D.C metro area about 9 years ago. My poor kids remain in the area, however, because that's where they found decent jobs.

People often ask me how I could move to a different area from where my kids and potential grandkids live. Easy, I tell them. Just move to a place where they will want to come visit. Which I did and they have.

That's because nobody wants to tell anyone where they are going. That means they are advertising their new place to the rest of this shit ass area!

I have 3 places in mind for the U.S. to move to and 2 places abroad. I've done my research already.......White population to non-white being on the top of the list.

I'm only here because of the job opportunities and the pay.

For those that left-

Is if ONLY because you retired? Or were you able to find a decent job in the new location?

I know cost of living is much lower in rural areas- but there are few to no jobs there too- THIS is my only reason for not leaving yet- I can be fired today and have another job by friday- can't say the same in the country!!!!

I have pared my bills down to next to nothing- but need a small income to sustain/pay rent/mortgage in the new place that is all!!!

Don't get your hopes up re: fast food workers.

My brother retired to a lily white area in the Midwest. He reports that the fast food are all white and they all speak English. However, they STILL screw up the order regularly.

Could it be that they just don't give a shit, regardless of race, national origin, etc? Honestly, I don't know how much of a shit I could give for $7 sumthin an hour.

My brother's solution was to stop eating at fast food joints altogether. That shit's no good for you anyway, especially if you're older.

Based on the statues, I'm betting all of my Salvadoran and Honduran neighbors believe in God.

As if it wasn't already obvious, you are a moron. The time between "teenager" and 80 years old is 62 years.

There was no McDonald's 62 years ago, although the McDonald brothers would open their first hamburger stand in Downey, California in August of 1953. Not quite 62 years ago. Ray Kroc didn't open his first McD's franchise until 1955.

And it would be decades until McD's were all over the place like they are now.

I for one, can't wait to get the fuck out of here. I've lived here 39 years and the last 15 or so, have sucked. Too many people. Rude people. Stupid people. As soon as I finish tying up some loose ends, I'm gone and am not looking back (unlike the OP of this thread). Pretty much, from Richmond to NY sucks donkeys. Making a mixtape for the drive out of here: Boston's Don't Look Back, Fleetwood Mac's Never Going Back Again, Spinal Tap's Lick My Love Pump.....

Thank goodness I have never lived near Fairfax! I live in Colorado where they are much more accepting of my gay marriage. And you all can kiss my gay ass if you do not like it.

To the NOVA haters get out and see the rest of the country. I mean most of the country which is predominantly poor, boring with no culture or with things to do. Yes NOVA has it's faults but most of the country is just plain sad.

Most have TONS of issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. Handicap permits are a plenty and healthcare costs for seniors are through the roof.

The haters are blind to what's right in front of them. We could have retired anywhere we wanted. We looked around and around. We stayed right here, and have not regreted a minute of it.

All this hate for NoVA, yet still no viable alternatives identified by anyone. Rural areas? Boring, boring, and more boring. California? Overrun by illegals and way too expensive. Florida? Old people, bugs, humidity, bad water, sinkholes and hurricances. Mexico and beyond? Poverty, drug cartels, corruption, and more crime. Phillipines? Poverty, poverty and more poverty. Fact is you have to be a billionaire to live somewhere really nice and not be bankrupted by oppressive taxes, healthcare costs, and/or real estate.

You might not believe it, but Pittsburgh is actually a great place to live. The big problem though is that unlike DC, the jobs just aren't there. Outside of that though, it's a decent alternative to DC. Really miss it

Retired four years ago. Still here and still laughing at the incredible losers who think they've somehow got it tough in the Fairfax area and that folks like me are somehow "stuck" here. What a bunch of pansy-ass, dork-brained hooey! NoVa is rapidly becoming a retirement mecca, both among those just now retiring and those who fell into the "Sun Belt Mistake" the first time around and are now correcting for that.

Checklist says: moderate four-season climate with plenty of water, interesting topography, and a relative absence (instead of the constant threat) of calamitous acts of nature. Mountains a couple of hours this way, beaches a couple of hours that way. A plethora of rec centers, parks, and nature preserves. Golf, swimming, tennis, boating, and fishing galore. Pro, college, and junior sports of every sort. Nearby casino and horse-racing venues. Low crime and low taxes. Top-tier educational and cultural resources. A mind-boggling array of upscale and other restauarants. Every imagineable medical resource. Proximity to major air and rail hubs, plus both high-tech and low-tech options for local travel ranging from Metro to Uber to an extensive area network of bike trails. There is even easy day-trip or weekend access to the attractions of places like Richmond, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Pittsburgh.

Stuck here? Don't make me laugh! There's simply no reason to leave!

All our roads that lead into town lead out again as well. Why don't you just get your worthless sorry-ass failure self out onto one of those today? Get the fuck out of here and never come back. Nobody aksed you to come and nobody will miss you when you're gone. So fuck off and just vacate the premises, asshole.

Your same cut and paste shit's tired old man. If you could afford better, you would. You can't.

Nobody in Palm Beach or Montecito with any money is wishing that they were in NoVA.

Retired people stick around here for two reasons:

1. Can't afford to go anyplace better
2. They have kids/grandkids here and want to stay near them

That's it. There's no other rational reason to sit here and watch this place turn into a 3rd world shithole that is it rapidly becoming.

FFX Co. is turning brown. It was the conscious decision of the tools that run this place. For time immemorial, whites flee when lower races gain a substantial foothold. Such is the case now in Fairfax. Loudon was the go-to escape, but the Eastern part of the county is now becoming Western Fairfax. So it's on to Fauquier. After that, you start running into white trash in mass, so there's little room left to expand out.

Whites with money will simply leave the NoVa entirely and find havens of other middle-class and above white communities either in enclaves in the South or out West. Sorry Fairfax, your embrace of the multicultural bullshit is your own death warrant. Enjoy you massive taxes and halal markets morons. Anyone with money and an IQ above 75 is getting the hell out here. Suckers

I've probably got another 7 years left here. I work from home but my wife drives into work. I can see my once nice, private neighborhood slowly turning to shit. When all the original homeowners start leaving and renting our their places, the riff-raff moves in and renters don't care about keeping a nice neighborhood. Commercial trucks in driveways, people parked in yards, trash on the curbs, dumbfucks kids playing in my yard, busted old honda civics and accoards with fake, plastic vents stuck on them and broken down. Can't wait to get out.

Obviously, not. We did our homework, and we hit the nail right on the head. We can and do travel to lots of really nice places, but there just is no better place to come home to than here. Every sort of network we want or need draws us here and welcomes us each time we return. Those who suffer here should likely leave, but more and more are coming to see the area just as we do.

I hear there are some delighful places in the Bible Belt. May you one day find your peace in one of them. I'm sure the Lord will forgive you your days among the heathen.

No, your list is woefully incomplete in reflection of the same extreme intellectual limits that constrained the rest of your moron post.

Can't wait to get the heck out of here. Too many mexicans. Too many asians. Taxes too high. Schools are tanking. The cutback in government spending is going to crash the housing bubble around here. The dude who mentioned white-flight is right on. I'll take my $225K salary and move up to Conn. Taxes suck up there but there's no nogs, no mexicans and no asians. Paradise.

Retiring in this area is the epitome of failure. Sure, you might retain an abode in this area, but full time retirement? That's for the imbeciles and infirm.

I'll be semi-retired in the next 18-24 months. We're preparing to downsize here and improve our second property.

You don't need to reply to ever post. We get it, you're an imbecile who is underwater on his Mcmansion and stuck here till you drop dead at your desk after stuffing the 12th twinkie of the day in your fat pie hole. Just put a bullet in your tiny brain and end it now. You're not doing anyone a favor sticking around.

IOW... "You're right. I can't really argue that. Personally, all of my money is tied up in my house and I can't afford to live in many better areas where I might if I had any real money. So, I must try to convince myself and everyone else that NoVA is just the mostest bestest place in the whole wide world."

The isn't Palm Beach or Montecito, the housing market in Fairfax did not tank like it did down there in Florida.

The homes of the people with money in Palm Beach or Montecito weren't the ones being foreclosed. Most of their boats are worth more than your GS-13 income house. lmao

Sorry, I'm just reporting on my own experiences. Everything that ever was here is still here. Climate, amenities, ease of living. Retired for four years now and no inclination to change a thing.

To each his own. Best of luck with all that.

So bitter. I can only begin to imagine the years of failure and agony it must have taken to drive you to such levels of despair. Living in Culmore probably doesn't help. LOL!

Hmmm. The weeping of another sorrowful failure. It seems there are quite a lot of your unfortunate kind here. Sort of like mangy curs at the dog pound.

LOL, the big mansions were the ones hit the hardest.

My zip code, and I bought in the 90s :-).

Now Palm beach...

"The median home value in 33480 is $556,900. 33480 home values have declined -0.7% over the past year and Zillow predicts they will fall -2.4% within the next year. "

http://www.zillow.com/palm-beach-fl-33480/home-values/

Average price in the peak of the bubble was $700k+, average price today is $550k and falling. LOL!

Face it, Fairfax has a healthier RE market. Sucks to suck.
