Noise Ordinance

While not opposed to noise ordinances at all, I must say the one on the board agenda seems to be tailor made for petty complaints. The barking dog provision, in particular, strikes me as unworkable, and it opens a door to neighbor-on-neighbor complaints and counter-complaints. Readers might want to send their supervisors respectful emails expressing concerns. Here's a chance to participate directly in democracy. If I may, I'll just reinforce the thought that RESPECTFUL emails might be the most effective. Thanks!

How about me running my 1969 Dodge Charger with the headers uncapped at 4:30AM just to welcome the day.

Nothing like a 440 Magnum to say good morning to all.

No dummy, it doesn't. No such door is opened for complaints against a particular party -- unless their dog is barking, that is, which is precisely the intention of the ordinance.

Idiot dog owners and their barking dogs have become an epidemic. You can't even take a walk on a nice day without being inundated. Virtually no one knows how to actually take care of a dog, so the dogs get bored/anxious/pent-up/etc, and the result is frequent barking. And if you're one of these people who thinks that simply feeding a dog, walking it for 10 minutes a day, and petting it every now and then is getting the job done, then congratulations on being an idiot. Watch yourself some Caesar Milan and get a clue -- not for your fellow citizens, but for your dog (who didn't choose -- and does not want -- to live with a doofus).

As expected, the council hearing on the proposed ordinance was most enlightening. While emotions were on display, the discussions revolved around reasoned positions, although, some were more reasoned than others. One thing stood out, though, and that was the dissatisfaction with the ordinance as it is now written. It appears that the present draft won't be adopted. The civic-minded are advised to stay current with the developing draft, and write, early and often, to one's district supervisor, to lobby for a reasonable, workable, and well-thought-out noise ordinance.
