Dear Woodson Community,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Scott Poole currently principal at Lanier Middle School, has been selected to serve as the principal of Woodson High School, effective April 13, 2015. Dr. Poole brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the principalship. In his 23 years of experience in Fairfax County Public Schools Dr. Poole has served in many roles that include principal at Lanier Middle School, Assistant Principal at Centreville High School and Social Studies Teacher and Department Chair at Langley High School and Cooper Middle School. He is currently the President of the Middle School Principals Association and is also an Adjunct Professor for Instruction and Administrative Leadership at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Poole is a student centered instructional leader with a proven track record of success as principal. He believes in collaboration, continuous job embedded staff development, the utilization of best practice research and developing and nurturing a school culture that makes each student’s academic, social and emotional growth its highest priority. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College and completed his Masters of Education, Secondary School Social Studies from George Washington University. Dr. Poole received his PhD in Education Leadership and Public Administration from George Mason University. Early in his career he served as a Graduate Fellow for the U.S. House of Representatives where he focused on Early Childhood Development and monitoring pending education legislation.
