Police say someone was shot during a possible attempted burglary in Virginia on Tuesday morning.

Fairfax County Police officers responded to the scene just after 8:30 a.m. at a house on James Drive in the Fairfax County area of Alexandria, where they found someone suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

You really don't think you should be able to defend yourself in your own home from a home invader? What's your approach - wait to get robbed/raped/killed and hope the cops show up in time? I'm not some open carry yahoo, but defending yourself in your own home seems pretty basic.

My philosophy is:

NO ONE SAW HIM ENTER THEN IN GOD'S NAME NO ONE NEEDS TO SEE HIM LEAVE!

THAT'S HOW YOU HANDLE THIS KIND OF SHIT!

Guntard needs to spend some time on the range. Shoot to kill or don't shoot at all.

Dude...nobody hates guns more than me. Nobody wants to see our laws and culture changed so that guns are removed from private citizens.

That being said...

If someone breaks into your home with the intent of harming you or people in that home or stealing/vandalizing your property and you have access to a gun? You fucking skin that smoke-wagon and shoot that person...dead. Empty your chambers or clip.

"The man who was shot had run from the house and down to Telegraph Road, where he tried to either flag down or board a bus while bleeding"

So the local bus was his getaway car?! Next time maybe he'll call a cab.

Two rules of life:
1) There is ALWAYS a victim
2) Don't be it.

Screw that. This guy has every right to defend his home. You think the police will protect you?

Good luck with that, sheeple.

Lambs to the slaugther.

Question: What is a burglar more scared of than the police?

Answer: A homeowner with a shotgun. I think it's because the homeowner does not scream, "FREEZE!"

Why did you say that? You are a confusing person.

If the home intruder was shot in the back (while retreating or running away) or outside the home, then the home owner may be liable.
Otherwise, if the intruder was shot within the home while facing the homeowner, while the homeowner was in fear for his life, whether or not the intruder was armed, than by state law, the home owner would not be charged, as it would be deemed self defense according to the Castle Doctrine which varies in application from state to state within the US.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or what but...I'll play.

The subject of guns in the hands of private citizens of the U.S. has become an increasingly polarizing issue. And like many other polarizing issues in our country's past, the only viewpoints on guns are those on the extreme end of either side of the issue are being heard. Moderates are not being heard.

I for one (and you're free to disagree) feel that it's important for those on the polarizing opposite of ANY issue should acknowledge when the other side has justification for their viewpoint. In this particular case, this happens to mean both moral AND legal justification. When a leftist can acknowledge the conservative point of view as the correct one? ALL of us grow as a people, a society and a nation. One might make the argument that there is no better support for a viewpoint than support that comes from the opposite side of said issue.

So, to summarize my feelings on this thread...I'm categorically opposed to guns of any kind in the hands of private U.S. citizens. HOWEVER...if there was EVER an instance where I would indeed support the ownership and use of a gun by a private U.S. citizen it would be in the instance illustrated here...a home invasion. To define further...you are enjoying a peaceful evening at home when unprovoked, one or more strangers kick in your door, break a window, set off explosives and blow a hole in your home, whatever...for the sole reason of either harming you and the other inhabitants in your home and or stealing or vandalizing your property. This is referred to in the legal community as "Castle Doctrine", "Castle Defense Law", or "Defense of Habitation Law".

When this happens...you are fully within your LEGAL and MORAL rights to defend yourself and your fellow occupants, as my good friend Malcolm Little would say, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

And to be clear, Castle Doctrine is nuanced. Look up the shooting of an intruder by Carl Rowan back in 1988. When someone breaks in and then is attempting to flee, it's more difficult (but not impossible) to prove self-defense and thus a justified homicide or wounding. And, you generally want to have your firearms registered.

Are we done here?
