How FCPS screws you and your kid on snow days

FCPS used to have 6 planned snow days (maybe 5?), with the school calendar running from Labor day till 3 weeks into June. By eliminating 1/2 day Monday's from ES's, we now have 13 snow days with the exact same calendar. So now instead of HS and MS kids possibly missing about 40 hours of instruction (6 snow days * 6.5 hours per day) on the old calendar, they can now miss potentially 84 hours of instruction. And that's on top of the commitment to always take two weeks off at Christmas..., sorry, Winter Break.
As with all things FCPS, what is spun is not what it seems. FCPS will make damn sure that they take all 13 snow days (that's what they are there for), so that while claiming credit for extending ES Monday's and adding maybe 60 hours of instruction to ES, MS and HS kids will actually spend less time in school. A bureaucratic home run for the FCPS, and as usual kids and taxpayers get screwed.
If you like this one, wait until you see how the later HS start times work out in reality.
