Former Annandale HS Student Arrested on Murder Charges

A former Annandale High School student, Reginald James Scott, 21, has been arrested for the murder of a college student in Chicago, the Annandale student newspaper, the A-Blast, reported Feb. 10.
Scott, a 2012 graduate, had been on the varsity basketball and cross country teams, the A-Blast states.
According to CBS Chicago, Scott and Daniel Gonzalez, 21, both enrolled at Parkland College, were accused of murdering Vicente Mundo, 20, a junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The suspects reportedly intended to rob Mundo of marijuana and cash.
Mundo hadn’t been seen or heard from since.had left friend’s apartment on Jan. 25 and headed home alone. His body, with a gunshot wound to the head, was found near a rural road Jan. 31. Police wouldn’t say which suspect shot Mundo.
The A-Blast piece includes several quotes from people who knew Scott: “I don’t recall really what he was like as a student, but he was a very talented athlete,” said cross country coach Dave O’Hara. Scott was on the team during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
“He seemed like he may have been headed down a pretty rough path when he left here,” O’Hara added. “It got rougher than what I think some people might have thought.”
“Reggie was a nice guy,” senior Nathan Hogye told the A-Blast. “I didn’t think he would ever do something like this.”
“I was pretty shocked as I’m sure everyone else was,” said senior Aviad Gebrehiwot.
“I knew he had some bad habits and did some stupid things. But I don’t think anyone could have guessed that he would take a life. That’s just a whole different level, ”Gebrehiwot said in the A-Blast article.
