Longterm power outages tomorrow
Posted by: Dominion guy ()
Date: February 14, 2015 08:50AM

The current situation with the power grid is going to put the northern Virginia area in a bad position with regards to power outages. The power from the central PA plants is being diverted to the new England area because some power generation plants in that area are off line due to weather conditions. If we lose our feed from the south there is going to be real trouble. Area hospitals and emergency service buildings are being advised to top off their generator fuel tanks today. The winds predicted for tomorrow combined with high demand for power is going to put us at risk.

I just got done changing the oil in my generator, running the gas tank dry and refilling it with stabilized gas. It holds 5 gallons and I have 6 more gallons of gas on hand. My transfer switch lets me run the fridge, furnace, router, modem, microwave and TV. Bring it on!!!

...HAZARDOUS WINTER CONDITIONS LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE MID-ATLANTIC LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SNOW SHOWERS AND SQUALLS WILL ACCOMPANY THE
COLD FRONT...MOST LIKELY BETWEEN 4 PM AND 8 PM.

BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW MAY PROMOTE A QUICK COATING TO AN INCH OF
ACCUMULATION IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. ROADS MAY BECOME SNOW
COVERED AND SLICK. IN ADDITION...WINDS ACCOMPANYING THE SNOW SHOWERS
AND SQUALLS WILL BECOME STRONG...GUSTING OVER 40 MPH. THE
COMBINATION OF SNOW SHOWERS AND STRONG WINDS WILL LEAD TO
VISIBILITIES OF ONE HALF MILE OR LESS. THESE LOW VISIBILITIES WILL DEVELOP
SUDDENLY.

TRAVELERS ACROSS THE REGION ARE ADVISED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. BE PREPARED FOR RAPIDLY CHANGING
CONDITIONS AS THE ARCTIC FRONT MOVES THROUGH. BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW
WITH SUDDEN VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS COULD MAKE FOR DANGEROUS
DRIVING CONDITIONS.

AFTER THE SNOW ENDS LATE THIS EVENING...VERY COLD AIR WILL MOVE
INTO THE MID-ATLANTIC. THE VERY COLD AIR WILL ALLOW ANY SNOW OR
SLUSH ON AREA ROADS TO FREEZE...RESULTING IN ICY CONDITIONS.

I went to the Giant in Annandale for my sick neighbor.

When I walked into the store it weather was like it's been all day. I was in there for 15 minutes max and I come out to a fucking blizzard. Blowing snow, pavement white and car covered to about a half inch. Unbelievable how fast that happened!

When the Grid goes, you can freeze your asses off maybe for days! You may have to sleep in your cubby hole at work if they got power. Natural Gas burners like me will sleep in warm comfortable homes with our small generators powering our warm Readdy Flame Furnaces via a transfer switch set up !

Hey KONA! How's that for being smug! Behind the Expansive Windows, I learned a thing or two from you! Hope your a gas burner too not a heat pumper. And I know you have a deep pocket and may even have a natural gas generator! Gasp The TOPS! and a transfer switch that can even handle the AC unit in Summer! Well you earned it old friend you are a smart fellow with economics but it really was not all Bushes fault. Sleep warm and well and savor the Kona in the AM . Me too with my Chock Full of Nuts. No transfer switch though, but I know how to make a suicide plug for the generator. Just Kidding! pal! Im not that stupid! Ill hard wire the gen set direct to the furnace breaker on the panel with the main breaker off of course.

We needed that.

Turn up that flame, thats all we can do now.Keep as much heat inside as you can 80 f vs 70 f means 10 degrees more heat and will buy you about 2 hours time in going to freezing and giving the power guys time to fix what is wrong. I hope for the best for all. Hope every one is Ok tommorow.

Speaking of the power company. Gas Co, Verizon, every one of them out and ready for stand by call out is a hero on nights like this. Same goes to public safety Fire and Police and dispatchers, hospitol nurses like my sister working all night long. Be well all. Heat Pumpers too. God Bless.

4" - 9"

for 40 years i never knew of or heard of Virginia Power being out for more that 2 days total - usually only a few to several hours

only Pepco had, and everyone knew it was because #1 they were more rural and #2 they were dickheads (pepco, overbilling, etc). continually the wash post blasted them for being over paid, charing too much, and refusing to restore power.

----------------
after richmond turned "pinko" (nigs and spics and NJ and NY in richmond hiring illegals to work on power)

Virginia Power turned to 1-2 weeks to get power on. twice in just the span of 5 years. also, minor outages began taking longer.

democrats are simply one scandal after another. counterfeiting. contrived outage. anything they can to "get whitey"

well ok maybe 35 years - still that was in bull-o-va gov's watch

one reason why:

1' of snow would NOT STOP a Virginia Power worker

they would SUCCESSFULLY get in their "dually truck" in the cold (smart enough to stay warm)

they would work on the power while it was still snowing , in the cold

they would at times even bring the power back on even while it was raining - but not during lighting. i'm unsure if it was safe: but uncle sam they DID IT

i thought nuclear plants had allot of water pipes that have very expensive plumbing problems costing billions - worse than a horny woman ordering a plumber. leaking water pipes - one of the most common causes of reactors down and $$$$ spent.

maybe their pipes will freeze !

DC niggers have a WAR ON COAL - they hate whites that make electricity

Fact: PEPCO generates power for DC using coal. train loads daily.

they've used Federal Dictrict court to rip of West Virginia coal miners continually

fact: obama's war on coal is simply to get niggas off the hook in DC who gambled and partied with the money they were supposed to use to pay the electricity bill with

The associated cold wave brought the coldest air recorded over portions of the eastern Great Lakes in decades on February 15, and possibly over the entire forecast record.[46] Well below normal temperatures covered a large portion of the eastern United States and were expected to stay in place, with only slight moderation, through the rest of the month.[47] Through February 21, primarily on February 16 and February 20, over 600 record low temperatures were recorded in the eastern U.S., including all-time record lows and record lows for February.[48] As of February 15, Lake Erie had 94 percent ice cover[49] while Lake Superior and Lake Huron were over 80 percent covered, and Lakes Michigan and Ontario were between 50 and 60 percent iced over.[50]

Parts of the central and southern U.S. received heavy snow and ice. Washington, D.C. received over 4 inches (10 cm) of snow and parts of the mid-South received 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) of freezing rain. The ice storm caused over 200,000 people to lose power.[51] A second winter storm hit the mid-South on February 25–26, bringing an additional 3 inches (7.6 cm) to 8 inches (20 cm) of snow much of North Carolina.[52]

I know all you young black boys from Frost Middle School hate the cold. I'll warm you up and the cold north wind won't be the only thing blowing you to and fro. Go ahead and bring your whitey friends along, but no WOPS

I can't wait to develop ulcerative colitis so I don't have to wait for winter for an excuse to buy up all the toilet paper at giant.

We just moved south out of fail-fax on acreage Recently finished re-insulating the house and I have a whole house propane generator with lots of fuel,I don't even notice when the power goes out barely a flicker. We also have plenty of food and ammo stocked up so I say bring it.It will be fun to watch.
