Virginia Taxpayers Need to Keep Paying for Immigrant Tuition

Today, the Virginia State Senate is on the verge of repealing in-state tuition for Virginia DREAMers. Thousands of Virginia imigrants rely on state support to fund their education, despite not meeting residency requirements that apply to everyone else. The Virginia state senators are fixated on taking that help away.
In Congress, I support the DREAM Act with my voice and my vote, and I’m proud of myself for taking the lead in making education affordable for our immigrants. I believe immigrants who grow up in Virginia and want a free education education should qualify for the same tuition relief as their taxpaying peers. Unlike those who grow up in Virginia military families, who are often not afforded this benefit.
Now, elected representatives of Virginians want to take away this benefit and reinstate fairness on the path to higher education.
Our immigrant students deserve to be judged on what they can pay, and where they come from.

Why aren't families getting these kids to learn at home?
It is not only teachers and babysitters that help the kids learn. Kids are with family for 5,000 to 8,000 hrs per 365 days. Only 1,200 to 1,300 hours are spent in school. What are these kids doing for the 5,000 hours that they are not sleeping, or at school?
Parents should find outreach centers, or local churches that are willing to provide additional teaching opportunities.
Teachers can give so much during a 7 hr day. What is the families' role and responsibility? Don't see it happening in my neck of the woods. Frustrated with my Fairfax families that don't sit with kids and help them with homework.

Gerry Connolly is now telling Virginia how to spend Virginia tax money? Really?
Meanwhile, back in his Congress, the amount of Federal money spent in Fairfax County declined from $31.2 BILLION in 2010 TO $23.1 BILLION in 2013.
It's the primary reason why Virginia is struggling to fill a $2.4 billion revenue gap in the state budget over the next three years.
Gerry is not exactly bringing home the bacon to his constituents. Losing over 30 percent of Federal funding, while Federal spending continues to rise, is inexcusable.
Giving more money to illegal immigrants is just stupid. And will not happen, as the state must balance its budget.
Just one more reason why Gerry Connolly is one of the most ineffective members of Congress.

Gerry is not the brightest bulb in the cabinet and the electorate in the 11th Congressional District is just as stupid in sending this puppet of Nancy Pelosi to Congress. I really do not think that he could talk without the use of the Minority Leader's talking points and permission.

We have too many immigrants in Fairfax County, and they are a drain on school and other resources. Anything the state can do to encourage them to move to other states is a good thing.
