About a month after his corruption conviction, former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell paid a quiet visit to the home of an old Alexandria friend.
McDonnell and Liz Reiley had seen each other just once since middle school, yet their emotions poured out as he consoled her over the recent death of her sister, and she comforted him over the unfathomable turn his own life had taken.
“He was suffering,” Reiley recalled of their 90-minute conversation in October. “And I think when you’re suffering, it makes you more sensitive to other people’s suffering.”

he raised the gas tax 5cents so for that reason alone he should get 12years to life.Also he was wearing a rolex and was seen driving a spots car.

One of these days society will have to think through its obsession with not raising taxes while simultaneously creating significant additional overhead by trying to make capital improvements while pretending it isn't doing it through the T-word. Case 1: Want public schools but don't want to pay? establish a lottery to administer the special tax on people who are too dumb to understand probability, and, concurrently, establish a new bureaucracy to employ armies of patronage workers who have dibs on the money thus collected. Case 2: These infernal toll roads. My blood pressure is spiking. I can feel that aneurysm getting ready to blow. Ahhhhhhh!

7 years a bit much, but he did use the GOV position for his profit which is HIGHLY illegal.

Exactly. Concerned citizens should be irate that people we elect use their office to brazenly accept cash and gifts from corporations seeking political influence. It's fucking intolerable. Seven years behind bars should send a clear message that we do not want this, it's completely unacceptable.
