People who use your neighborhood as their walking track

This guy comes from across the street to enjoy the trees in our neighborhood. He walks really slowly and reads a newspaper while walking down the middle of the street, totally oblivous to traffic. It's so fucking annoying. He acts like he actually lives here. GRRR

People who type "grrr" can't be old enough to have a driver's license. So what's the problem?

i agree with OP. there's a woman in my neighborhood that walks her baby in its stroller leisurely down the center of the street, much of the time wearing headphones. i live between 2 major roads, cars go VERY fast down my street. I fucking hate this bitch because it seems like i care about her baby more than she does.

Call the Ferguson Missouri Police Dept. If he's a nog, that will put a permanent stop to that shit.

As long as you walk on the yellow line, the chances of being hit are slim. I ride my bike in the middle of the street all the time, but I stay right on the line. No one has ever hit me.

Sounds like you're lucky, not smart. You really must trust these fairfax drivers.

Yeah, pet peeve: folks who walk/run in the damned street right next to an empty, level, clean sidewalk. Half of 'em are too stupid to do it facing traffic, too. Yet you know when one gets hit, it'll be considered 100% the driver's fault.

I was always taught that if you must use the street to walk/run, you do it facing traffic, so you can see that deuce headed for you and maybe dive out of the way. Is this too tricky a concept for today's brains?

Neighborhood streets are not the Beltway or ACELA-carrying railroad tracks. Kids play in the streets. People walk dogs along them. They walk and jog out there for good health. They walk to the bus or nearby shopping. All you selfish Mario Andretti wannabes are required to be mindful of all these folks and others at all times. As your attorney will explain to you when outlining how badly your case before the judge is about to go.

When one must walk on the road because the area lacks pedestrian facilities such as a sidwalk, one is advised to walk on the left-side, facing traffic, as this presents opportunities to establish eye-contact with approaching motorists and make quick judgments to protect oneself.

OP if it bothers you so much here is an idea. Get on your bike or car and follow those idiots around. Yell derogatory words at them and give them the stink eye stare. There use to be a guy named Matthew Jefferson Taylor in Mantua who loved doing that type of shit to people walking around on the street.

You should give it a try it worked well for him, it should also work well for you.

A little courtesy would go a long way on both sides. Why don't you stop and gently say that it could be dangerous to walk in the middle of the street. If he doesn't take the hint, then you're just going to have to live with it. Seriously, how much of an inconvenience can this possibly be? There are real problems in life; this isn't one of them.

He does actually live there. Across the street is the same neighborhood unless you've got some serious gang-turf rules going on...

Damn, liberal intolerance has no bounds. Now libs, that live in a subdivision, are complaining about other neighbors walking in the street because they are too poor to afford a house in a subdivision with sidewalks.
Epic lib hate.

It's not about luck or trust. I don't believe in luck, and I don't trust anyone.

It's about my high IQ.

I notice that drivers, yapping on their cell phones, are apt to swerve to the right; I don't know why, but that's what the assholes do.

Where are the bike lanes? On the right? RIGHT?

So I ride my bike down the yellow line in the middle of the road. It keeps me alive.

My neighborhood has maybe 30 houses on large 1-2 acre lots. Across the highway (4 lane major rd) is a new development with like 300 houses including low income dense housing. That's where he comes from. A lot of people come from over there to go walking but it's just that he comes here so often and he reads his fucking paper while walking down the street and there is no sidewalk.

There are a lot of idiots that are still alive. I don't think that's a testament that walking in the middle of the road is safer than the sidewalk. I guess it's different with a bicycle but you can't be that smart if you base your self preservation on a vague observation. if your life is involved, wouldn't you do some research? Pedestrians killed on the sidewalk vs in the road vs the percentage of people stupid enough to be on a roadway compared to percentage of casualties out of the group as a whole.

most pedestrians are killed on the sidewalk because most pedestrians ARE on the sidewalk.

I can't believe this, this is a free country this earth of been here long before us and nobody has any right to be pissed off because a person is just walking around enjoying nature. Land of the free right? Not land of the free if you pay large sums for money for this one spot. Get a life and stop trying to control everyone around you. It's a free country so go enjoy it.

OK, you do your research; I'll do mine. Statistically speaking, I have a better chance of surviving in the middle of the road, because, as you so succinctly stated, most pedestrians ARE killed on the sidewalk.

So, look for me on Fairfax County Parkway, tomorrow. Don't purposely hit me, just to prove a point, ok? Thanx

I guess you need me to help you out with the logic here. Ok. Imagine 1000 people walking to work every day for a year. How many will choose to walk in the street? Let's say three. Over the course of a year, 5 pedestrians have been hit on the sidewalk, vs only one was killed while walking in the street.

In that scenario, your chances of being killed on the sidewalk are 5 out of a thousand, but in the street it's 1 out of 3. Less deaths in the street, but MUCH more likely if you're stupid enough to be there instead of the designated walking area.

I'm just trying to help you out. You can't be that smart if you're riding a bicycle in this weather.

People do have a right to be pissed at that. Just like others have a right to be able to troll the bastards that complain about strangers in their neighborhood. It works both ways.
