We partied there all the time. Took the road that cut past the Shell gas station, and the Chilla Villa Motel to the fields and woods back there. If not there were at the Super 29 Drive In.

There was a house back in the Smith Carny tract where the govt center was built. After the county got the pland they used the house for the County Survey shop. I also remember walking in with a fried who had a metal detector fro Rt 50 and coming across the memorial at Momument with the little fence around . It was just off West Ox the houses there in the back, grown up with weeds, There was another house the county got at Pender, near Rt 50 that as taken for the intersection, It was a fine older house with nice trim and had some nice tress on the property. This was all about 32 years back.

In the summer of 1970 I was on some property off West ox with a friend and his father a Air Force Lt Col who was a forward observer in Vietnam and just came home, We were in there near the 29 drive in, throwing some clays and shooting them with a shotgun, the father thought we were far enough in the country to do it. Fairfax Co Pd came by , had a talk with the father and just told him we could not shoot there, no big deal. And we left. The area was "rustic" back then and If you wanted a real back to the country ride you just took Braddock Road all the way out to Loudoun Co.

Thank God we have all these townhouses now. Now we can fit 20 million people here that can claim they live in Fairfax.

Weren't there houses at Random Hills until the mid-late 90's?

Like a small neighborhood of maybe 30 or so nice looking 1950's style ramblers that could be seen from 66 in the winter time?

Not Gov Center, but I think a bunch of new town homes now...but near gov center

Yeah, those were great homes, too. My best friend in HS lived there with his family. Lots of woods surrounding their property so, it was very private. Awesome for throwing keggers when his folks were out of town. Your closest neighbors were too far away to be bothered by teen drunks, loud music and fireworks.

Fairfax County declared eminent domain on them and they were able to stay in Ffx County and get a similar sized home and lot in Burke but, his Dad is still pissed about it today because as is the case frequently with eminent domain...market value (before eminent domain was declared) and assessed value (especially in the boom of the early 90s) were worlds apart.

Eminent Domain? That is complete bullshit because they didn't use a fraction of the land that was occupied by homeowners on Random Hills Road for the Govt. Center. It was sold off to developers to build all those fucking townhouses. Fucking FFX Cty Govt. Wish someone could trace back the developers and see who they paid off on the Board to claim "eminent domain" so they could acquire the property.

Seems the county had their eyes on that big tract for quite a while, everything blew up over there quick as shit. Farms and woods became mall, mall and condos-t houses, stores, highway, churches and mosques, more roads, stores, t houses, apartments etc. Must suck to grow up here any more, but hell, ya never see gangs of kids out playing these days any how so I guess it doesn't matter.
