Ah yes, the young, african american male wearing a hooded sweatshirt. I see that guy everyday. He seems to show up all over the place too, like a shadow. Everytime you turn around, there he is. The police have their hands full with this one!

We went to San Francisco once and we walked thru this neighborhood by the water. They were expensive homes too. Lots of people had a bhudda statue in their front yard. He looked just like this bank robber. So I think he is Chinese.

The majority of bank robberies these days are at BB&T and Wakovia. The reason is these are the only two major bank chains to prohibit licensed individuals from carrying firearms on the premesis. The criminals of course know this and logically conclude there is much less chance of meeting resistance from citizens. Not making this up.

I don't believe a police officer can ever be prevented by a private entity from carrying a weapon, am I wrong?

That's the reason I would never rob a bank, besides the fact that I would be total prison rape bait, but also the police have to bank, too.

These days you don't need a gun to perform a robbery, you read all the time about how a guy just handed over a note and the teller was trained to just give it up to the guy.

Rob - If you seriously saw the guy at what could be presumed to be his place of employment, I *HIGHLY* encourage you to call the numbers listed above.

Or if you're joking, then my ability to perceive sarcasm online is dead in the water.

Rob/RESton

An officer cannot be prohibited from carrying anywhere he goes while in the performance of his duties (regardless of whether it is private property or not). The only restrictions which I'm aware against this would be law which supercedes or is exempt from this. Such facilities would include federal government buildings related to national security, intelligence community or military.

As for off duty, cops are allowed to carry concealed anywhere in the nation - even without a concealed carry permit - so long as they have their law enforcement credentials on them as well. But in this case, if they're on private property while off-duty and refuse to leave at the request of the property's owner, then they can be nailed for tresspassing.

And breaking the law is the *last* thing a cop ever wants to do.

Maybe he had a few root canals just before he robbed the bank?

Not so fast, my friend. Police from other jurisdictions are not allowed to carry when they are off duty in DC. Maybe you meant that if they are in their own jurisdiction they can carry off duty. That would be true.

Why do they always draw these guys with hoods on? Remember the Unabomber? Are sketch artists just incapable of drawing hair?

That is correct... I should have been more clear. When I wrote licensed I had non-law enforcement citizens in mind. I can't remember the last time I walked into a bank and saw a cop though.

Yes sworn law enforcement officers can carry a concealed weapon anywhere in the US and that includes DC. The law was passed a couple of years ago. It used to be state by state but a federal law was passed which supercedes any state or local law.

To clarify per FFPD:

The suspect in today’s bank robbery is described as a black man about 25 to 30 years old. He was between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He wore a gray hooded sweat shirt and dark pants.

Because when he hits the next BB&T he's likely to be wearing a hood of some sort.

The police sketches make sense to me in this case. What never made sense to me is why kids on milk cartons were always shown smiling... they should be shown frowning because that's how they will look if they have been kidnapped.

I always wondered why they didn't depict the kids on the milk cartons protruding from a shallow grave. Because let's face it, if the kidnapper sees that milk carton, that is what the kid is going to look like when you find them.

Due to national carry reg yes off duty police can carry in D.C. They also can carry on pvt proprty open to public. they can be asked to leave however if the Buisness is Lic by the jurisdictio or the state or the bank is fdic insured, or they have an A.B.C. lic they cannot force the officer to leave because of his gun
