Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Did you hear Sharon Bulova on the radio this morning? Telling the School Board not to ask for more money. She seemed pissed over the spending for later start times, saying it was a special interest cause not supported by their constituents. Not like Sharon to take such a stand publicly. Wonder whether there is more to the story than we have been told.
And why should she care? Her party controls both the school board and the BoS. No need to show unity any longer. Now just drive home the socialist agenda, drive it like you're wearing a strap-on Sharon.

Sharon is just mad that every dollar the school board spends is one less dollar for roads and senior services for illegals.
It is the dumbest thing ever! How can they say in one statement that studies show teens perform better with more sleep, then they turn around and have the middle school kids starting earlier! Hummm middle schoolers are teens...12, 13, and 14....( a few older ones..hahaha) Be prepared for major traffic implications, as with high schoolers staring later, more drivers will be on the roads. When someone asked if they considered this, Board said nope. Remember most of the tax payers that they "love" and fund their schools do not have kids in the school system, but hey screw their commutes. They were told to adjust their travel times.
Everyone should wise up and realize that the School Board is going to continually do stupid shit that wastes precious funds until the very second that we decide that the school board does not deserve to be re-elected. For god's sake look at the candidates record before voting for them!
We are so lucky that in Virginia School Boards do not have the ability to raise taxes on constituents. If they did our already high taxes would be through the roof!
Bulova is not as fiscally conservative as Herrity, but she is not a spendthrift like Hudgins. Every year, the Supervisors have a tough job - how to balance the demands from FCPS for bigger transfers with the greater public's concerns about taxes and other county services.
The $5 million on later high school start times was well-spent, and unlike other FCPS programs it will benefit all kids. Most FCPS School Board members are loathe to cut any existing programs or to eliminate any positions at Gatehouse and Fairfax Ridge. Maybe Bulova is just trying to change their mindset.

"The $5 million on later high school start times was well-spent...it will benefit all kids."
Totally incorrect.
It was not well-spent, given the continual begging from the School Board for more money.
It will not benefit all kids. In fact, many thousands of middle school kids will now get less sleep, even though they need more sleep than high schoolers. Also, not all high school kids will benefit either.
It's clear that this change was made simply so that the School Board members can claim they did something about this non-existant problem prior to the next School Board elections.

First, Jesus is not a lady. Second, YOU STFU. Third, HiGh School kids should wake up earlier and get the coffee started. Wash a load of clothes, clean the bathroom. Get their brothers and sisters up. Fix breakfast and be GLAD they get to go to school at all. So, STFU you HS sissy

Amazing how the school board can be so easily bullied by a small special interest groups yet has the audacity to submit a bloated budget every year and threaten the the county board and citizens with an inability to deliver quality education. Other county agencies budgets have been slashed for the past decade and still manage to get the jobs done without all the drama and whining. If you think that a fair percentage of your taxes are going to help the average run of the mill kid,,guess again!
