Rode by and saw a town house burnt up pretty bad. Loudin, Fairfax and Centerville Fire departments were on scene, but the fire was out. Also saw a car with two Males arrested in it. It was not a cop car but it was smashed up pretty bad. Im thinking it was a meth lab explosion. Maybe it will be on the local news or in the centerview. Hopefully every one made it out OK

Once again, we have FFXU'ers on the scene! You guys are more reliable than the US mail, the tides, sunrise and sunset, and the Maytag repairman, all rolled into one. This photo goes out to all the dedicated Johnny on the Spot FFXU'ers who relentlessly battle traffic to get to the scenes, listen to police and fire scanners in mouth-dropping anticipation and awe, leave your jobs or families on a weekend, all to report LIVE from the scene!

Damn, you got me figured out. I was at the family deli making sandwiches. We had the scanner on. When the call came for a townhouse fire. I immediately told the family to stop working and huddle around the scanner.

As soon as we knew it was a good fire we closed the family deli and we loaded up the car. I had my son google the location. We rushed to the scene and did a full investigation taking notes and interviewing people.

When we got back to the deli we had a meeting to co-ordinate all our notes and put together a post for FFX underground.

Of course another option is we might of been driving on RT 50 when it happened...

News Release 09-25
Date: March 23, 2009
Two-Alarm Chantilly Townhouse Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire Sunday, March 22, 2009, at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 4101 Chantilly Lace Court.

Firefighters encountered fire from the rear of the two-story townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. A second fire alarm was struck bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. The townhouse was constructed with a fire wall in place, assisting firefighters in containing the fire. A total of nine individuals have been displaced. Three adults and three children lived in the fire unit, and one adult and two children lived in an adjacent townhouse that received minimal damage. There were no injuries. Red Cross assisted the displaced occupants. Units from Loudoun County also responded to the fire.

Damage is estimated at $200,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Clothing in a first-floor utility closet was too close to a light fixture, causing the fire.

Firefighters Install More Than 200 Smoke Alarms
Firefighters placed 206 smoke alarms and 148 batteries in homes March 7, 2009, during a semi-annual smoke alarm initiative. The initiative is conducted every spring and autumn in conjunction with the switchover of daylight savings time.

Firefighters taking a proactive approach to fire safety, canvassed homes in their first due neighborhoods checking for working smoke alarms. A total of 354 smoke alarms were either installed or made functional by new batteries during the smoke alarm campaign.

The initiative was made possible by a grant from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs to Fairfax County. Smoke alarms play a vital role in reducing deaths and injuries from fire and have contributed to an almost 50 percent reduction in fire deaths since the 1970s. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms save lives and protect property.

Firefighters will conduct the fall campaign, Saturday, November 7, 2009.
