Springfield Town Center Grand Opening October 17!
Posted by: Lexie ()

THe STC will hold its grand (re-) opening Friday October 17. 65% of the stores are scheduled to open that weekend. The ribbon cutting is at 10:00am, but the first 200 people in line will receive STC giftcards ranging in value from $250 to $10. There will also be other giveaways and many surprises! I plan on camping out in my car there Thursday night 'coz I want a giftcard and will have my kids camping with me so they get giftcards too (they can miss school for one day!). Does anyone know where the ribbon cutting and givaways and other festivities will be taking place?

Alex - out...

Alex,
How soon after opening can I expect to get my car broken into or robbed?

Will there be anyone to translate from the malls native Spanish to English in case I want to buy something? Will these be regular stores or will I be expected to bargain the price like in Mexico? Will illegal drugs be available everywhere or have you set aside specific places?
Lastly
Where will the MS13 signup booth be located?

I'll be there Friday night! I can't miss work for the opening, but I can't wait to the mall reopens. I saw the website has a few stores listed, but not all of them are up.

It will be so nice to have a brand new town center!

You really need a life. If you get there early enough, you might be able to snag some fame as the first women to get her purse stolen.

I, for one, am looking forward to the new mall. It looks amazing in and out. The stores are nice and location is really coming together well. Also, I'm white, but I'm also fluent in Spanish and English with a smattering of French. So the Hispanics and I get a chance to openly mock the poor little racists who are too afraid of shopping around people of a different color. Too bad they won't understand us.

I've also read that some of the car dealerships in the middle of town are moving out to the fringes on loisdale. I can only hope that they will replace them with some sort of commercial incubator which will help support more locally owned businesses and small boutiques.

Springfield is on its way up. We just need to get the racists out of here and we will take off!

So far we have: LA Fitness, Crazy 8, Gymboree, Regal Cinemas, Dick's Sporting Goods, Champs, Chuy's, Footlocker, Yard House, Nordstrom Rack, Nando's, Bath and Body Works, Topshop, Forever 21, Sephora, Lids, Teavana, H&M, Maggianos, J. Crew, Ann Taylor LOFT, White House/Black Market, Charlotte Russe, Chico's, American Eagle Outfitters, Reed Jewelers, Soma, Cartoon Cuts, Mon Cheri Nails, Eyebrows, Springfield Therapeutic Massage, Target, Macy's, J.C. Penney's, Michael Kors, and more. Plus it houses the Springfield Farmers Market every Saturday. (Please, please go to this if you don't already. It is so important to support our local farming community)

Yes occupancy isn't 100%, but that is still a pretty darn good line-up. More will come as the success of the mall is proven. I know that I'll be supporting it 100% and doing everything I can to help it be successful.

Listen, we all would love to have a great mall so close. And on paper this seems promising. But those of us who have been here 30+ years and have seen every iteration of Springfield Mall know that it starts out nice and exciting and pretty quickly turns to shit. If I'm being racist, it was first the white redneck thugs in the 70s and 80s who turned that mall to a pit. Now you can plug in whatever race you are against and blame them but it really just comes down to thugs. The area around the mall is Springfield. You can't take the Springfield out of Springfield.

I'm not hoping for it to fail. I'd love to be wrong. But I've seen this movie too many times.

The list on their Web site is woefully incomplete compared with the tenant lists published elsewhere.

The statement that gives me pause is that only two-thirds of the stores will be opening during the grand opening weekend.

I heard only a dozen or so stores will be opening next Friday (I don't count Target, JCP, or Macy's since they never closed). Other stores will open as they are ready. By Black Friday, they expect most tenants who have signed leases to open their stores or restaurants. Occupancy is currently 75%, but they expect to be at 90 - 95% by next spring.

The Children's Court and Food Court will have its grand opening on Saturday 10/18.

I am so looking forward to this new mall and getting a couple of $250 gift cards Friday morning will be encourage me to shop there for sure.

Actually, this isn't accurate. Boston Properties has their private land out of the bid. The 50+ acres of GSA owned land is still in the running.

November 4, 2045 - Cuidad Autonoma de Espringfield - Local Commissar Jose Decaimiento cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Espringfield Consumer District. His remarks were inspirational. "Today we celebrate not a re-opening or renovation of a local eyesore," Decaimiento gushed. "Today, we usher in a new era of economic growth for our beloved community!"

"For the past 25 years," he explained, "the surrounding and wealthy enclaves mocked us and shunned our down town center. Our bold, new Consumer District is a shining example of what Espringfield can be and is the heart of our ciudad's growth for the second half of this century!"

The Espringfield Consumer District features many premier tenants.

The big question is when the not-so-new Springfield Mall will have its first violent crime. I wouldn't be surprised if it occurs before the end of 2014.

I can't figure out why they decided to tear up the roads just before they opened. The whole area still looks like a construction zone.

Actually that is a pretty crappy lineup. The anchors were already there and have been open. Target is a store that can be worth going to, barely. The rest? They sound like refugees from the hapless Landmark Mall in Alexandria. There are some useful stores around the mall like Home Depot, PetsMart, Gamestop, Starbucks but why go inside?

Just more crap.

In other words, you have the same three anchor stores with the addition of a couple of yuppie eateries that are already post-peak on the hype curve.

All surrounding a half-empty core of really down-market shops.

I believe having a Dave and Busters will help the town center aka mall. The closest D&Bs is in Hanover Maryland, 47 miles away and at least a 50 minute drive. Once it is known in Northern VA, people will go out of their way to come to the town center/mall.

It is happening folks.

I wonder if Dave & Busters is being brought in to make up for the fact that Time Out is not going to be found at STC. (Andrews Federal Credit Union is in the former Time Out spot, upper level next to JC Penney, according to the STC directory.)

It is possible they could be in the food court. The directory doesnt have much listed in the food court as of right now.

Obviously you are man critiquing the value of a shopping mall. If u were a woman u would know that is not a pretty crappy line up.and it's the women that bring in the big bucks to the malls so your opinion is not really valid

There was a lot of people there, the traffic getting in was pretty bad.

It's not a town center, it's a mall. The back of the mall looks like the same apart from a glass paneled entrance. I was hoping for more of a change, like a true town center.

The news said they're calling it a town center because the "mall" is just one phase and there is going to be more to come.

A lot of energy at the mall opening with jim mckay and the preit owners telling springfield that this was the first phase. There were easily hundreds in the crowds with cars parked back to back and people even parking across the street for parking since none were available. People from all over came to the mall not just springfieldans but those from lorton, alexandria, annandale, and other parts of fairfax.

Maggiano's is open today. I thought they were adding a new parking garage to new STC, but no such luck. Same two parking garages, one by Macy's and the other smaller one by JCP. Parking is going to be a real problem there around the holidays.

I walked around the new STC this afternoon and being a white guy felt like a true minority. Gangs of black and latino kids were all over the place. I felt like STC was an inner-city mall as whitey's were few and far between. I would say 1 of 10 shoppers I saw this afternoon was white. Also, a lot of the clerks were speaking spanish with the shoppers. As I was leaving the mall via Frontier drive, saw lots of blacks and latinos heading to STC from the Franconia-Springfield Metro station.

A lot of stores weren't open. Not sure the non-whites will be shopping or spending their $ at high end stores like Top Shop, J Crew, or White House/Black Market. There are some trashy no-name stores down by Target of course.

And why the fuck is there an Andrew's Federal Credit Union at Springfield Mall? Are there that many people who live in Springfield and work at Joint Base Andrews? Or do they expect the population from PG County who live near and work at Andrews to do their shopping at STC?

Got a mailer the other day from them and was wondering too. I'm not even close to Springfield. Guess they're looking to expand. Apparently you can qualify for membership by being a "consumer."

From their site:

"Our membership includes Washington, DC, civilian and military personnel of Andrews Air Force Base, McGuire Air Force Base, and military installations in central Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands; as well as over 200 employer groups throughout Maryland and New Jersey.

As a consumer, you may be eligible to join our credit union through the American Consumer Council. Please visit ACC's website at www.americanconsumercouncil.org for more information on membership eligibility."

From the ACC site:

"Two ways to join:

1. Join for $5.00 - if you currently use or have used a major consumer product or service in the past 12 months, you can join ACC or your state consumer council for $5.00!

2. Lifetime Members - The lifetime cost of membership is $15.00."

Not too broad eh? ;)

So, I guess the deal is that you pay the $5 to ACC and then you're qualified to join AFCU.

You're a liar. Outside Target there is a 2 level H&M, Champs sports, At&t, clarks, jcrew among others thats not trashy no name stores. You're not funny and I didn't see any gangs more like moms with strollers if you think that's a gang.

The two malls, Tysons and Springfield are a 10 minute drive apart. It is physically impossible for the demographics to be much different.

People are stupid on here. Don't go to the fucking mall if you don't want to. Don't demonize redevelopment just because Springfield is a little more diverse.

Get a life. Springfield isn't cheap either. It's got prime location in the region. It is the central point of all this areas major corridors.

Maybe down in Triangle you can drive 12.5 miles in 10 minutes.

It's a good 20 minutes from Tysons to Springfield. That can turn quickly turn into 45 minutes with traffic.

Obviously the mall wasnt built for only springfieldians to shop but the surrounding areas of lorton annandale farfax alexandria arlington etc. People from as far as culpeper and dulles came to the malls opening. Like yeah right the investors targeted only one part of fairfax

People from Dulles and Arlington aren't going to shop at STC regularly, they likely just wanted to check out the renovations.

Annandale, Alexandria, and Lorton, have a bit different demographics from Mclean, Great Falls, and Vienna.

I don't see too much in the way of ghetto blacks, wetbacks, low caste Indians and dirt-poor Pakistanis in Tyson's. Sorry.

No, the 2 level H & M, 2 level Forever 21, and JCrew are closer to the Macy's wing. Immediately outside of Target on the upper level there is a no name clothing store called Trends, a Calendar Store and a Rack Room Shoes; on the lower level immediately outside Target there is a Framing Store, Eyebrow Designer, One Hour Jewelry Repair and a place called Wireless USA. These are real high class stores let me tell you. Kind of reminds me of the stores that were at Springfield Mall before it closed. Here's to the new Springfield Town Center, same as the old Springfield Mall!

What time were you at the STC? I was there yesterday from around 3:00pm - 5:00pm. Yeah, there were a few moms pushing strollers, very few. The majority of the people at the mall when I was there were non-white, mostly teenagers in large groups that were checking out the mall. Maybe they weren't affiliated with a gang, but who knows. I am sure it won't be long before the first fight or kniving occurs at the new STC.

I grew up in arlington and loved shopping at the old springfield mall because I found more unique things and the stores werent so picked over like at ballston.

Look at the directory stupid out of target there is a jcrew and h and m in the same hall as target and just 2 stores down. I was there morning whrn they cut the ribbon til 5pm A LOT of moms with kids and families. Lol I saw those large groups of tweens they varied in color from brown to pale white and were all short skinny and preppy. Yes they are rude but they were probably your kids. Teach them to be humble non materialistic and not to be full of themselves then and maybe then theyll stop acting like rude entitled savages

10 min drive would be to landmark, annandale possibly arlington, alexandria, lorton. The ghetto blacks arent from soringfield theyre from woodbridge or dc. I live minutes from mall and I dont have a single black neighbor just educated indians, whites, and a hispanic neighbor from hawaii. Tysons is a zoo of all kinds of people. For me theyre all the same unless u do your shopping in expensive stores in paris or italy only people here are the same and are just as likely to act crazy

No dipshit, malls within 10 minutes drive of each other will have relatively the same demographics of shoppers retard.

Visit Landmark.

Then visit Tyson's Corner.

Then visit the Shops at Georgetown Park (when it reopens).

Then visit Springfield Mall.

Then tell me that the shoppers' demographics are the same.

Oh, and I like how you now couched your asinine assertion by saying "relatively the same." Fucking idiot.

Is landmark still a mall? I thought it became a ethiopian/eritean community center? Tysons is full of people who rob others legally including dentists, lawyers, doctors, and people who believe buying a $700 hermes belt is essential to their lives and to keep up appearances basically a bunch of fake people but I guess you think those people are the most worthy people in the world? Shops at georgetown park.. i grew up walking distance from there and have to say that as a brown skinned individual I grew up seeing all types of people in that mall mostly students, people who worked nearby, people from bethesda, corporate types, people from DC (there was a shootout at halloween in georgetown last year i believe. You gotta accept that all kinds of people will frequent malls especially those with an accessible metro nearby. The shops in bethesda have a large percentage of blacks who shop there and the shops at dulles have a large percentage of indians who shop there with bleach blond housesluts who also shop at nordstroms there.

Have been going to the farmer's market there for a few years. Today is the last time that will be happening. Traffic was insane, the lanes aren't marked on Franconia Road, bad drivers and accidents in the short distance between getting off 95 and the entrance to the mall. Then no one knew where they were going, scary young men roaming in the parking lot and parking almost impossible for the market. Not somewhere I will be going again anytime soon. Seems they just have traded the old mall for a new "town center" without solving any of the problems that killed the mall to begin with.

Today is the official grand opening of the stores and it's a Saturday. Wasn't heavy traffic expected? I'm tiny and female yet I don't get scared as easily as so many on here seem to be always scared.

Gerry mander2 consistently shows up as the biggest douche on the internet.

He is only 10 minutes from LameTown and AssholeVille.

It's sad really. Grown ass men acting like little girls.

So in other words, you're providing evidence to support what pwY6L stated about the ridiculous claim that it's impossible for the demographics to differ between malls 10 minutes apart.

But you're too stupid to realize what you're even posting about.

Made it out there today for a bit to see for myself. For those who used to frequent Springfield Mall, you'll find it hard not to laugh at the idea that this is being billed as a Town Center. Once that was advertised as the original plan before the economy forced the plan to be scaled back, I guess they felt they couldn't drop that terminology. The updated shopping center has pretty much the same basic floor plan as the old place, but it has a brighter and cleaner look. The selection of stores is somewhat higher end than it was before, but it doesn't compete with the array of nicer stores at Tysons or Pentagon City. There's only so much that can be done when the anchor stores are Macy's, J.C. Penney, and Target. The place isn't really huge, but I'd forgotten how large that place is. My honest opinion is that the new "Town Center" will have difficulty keeping the nicer stores as tenants and the whole project won't live up to the hopes of those who wanted to completely remake and rebrand the shopping center -- as well as the surrounding area.

Are you stupid? They said they'd only work in between the anchor stores. Sounds like more jealousy which I don't understand. It's great for the overall FFX economy with this new town center. Tysons and Pentagon are gigantic and how is Pentagon not considered ghetto when about 90 percent of the people who visit that mall are black and hispanic? What you say? they have a lot of $$ to spend? that's right!

What are you talking about? Pshit said that demographic DO differ but they barely do in the surrounding areas. Why do you think Pshit was talking about visiting tysons then ethiopian paradise to see the difference?

Need to read more carefully stupid
