Police say a Fairfax man was struck and killed by a car after he walked into a roadway Monday night.
Fairfax County police responded to the area of West Ox Road and Polo Drive just after 9 p.m. Monday, police said in a news release.
Police said that a man, later identified as 32-year-old Brener Omar Llamas Rivera was crossing West Ox Road outside of a crosswalk and had walked from a grassy median onto the northbound lanes of the road. A 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 50-year-old Alexandria man, was traveling north on West Ox Road north of Polo Drive when it struck the pedestrian.
The driver of the Malibu stayed at the scene, police said.
Rivera, of Summit Manor Drive in Fairfax, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Police are still investigating the crash but said speed was not a factor and the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
